🎡 Embracing Emotions: The Intriguing Role of Carnivals in Human Experience With Notting Hill Carnival commencing today, ever thought about what these vibrant events represent when it comes to human emotion? 🤔 Carnivals are a kaleidoscope of feelings, spinning us through a spectrum of emotions. From the excitement of a thrilling ride to the cozy nostalgia of carnival treats, these colourful gatherings mirror the complexity of our inner worlds. So, here's a whimsical insight into why carnivals matter: 🎈 Embracing Joy and Excitement: Carnivals remind us to embrace the moments that make our hearts race, be human and some what animalistic in the most beautiful way. Just like the Ferris wheel’s ascent, life is full of ups and downs, and it’s the thrill that keeps us alive and engaged! 🍭 Nostalgia and Connection: Carnivals evoke a sense of nostalgia, harking back to simpler times. They remind us of the importance of connecting with our past, cherishing memories, and finding comfort in traditions that define our lives. Following the uncontrolled chaos of COVID, this is a moment for reclaiming the chaos and connection. 🎠 Facing Fears: Daring rides and new people challenge us to confront our fears head-on. They teach us that stepping out of our comfort zones can lead to growth and exhilaration. Just like in life, conquering our fears at the carnival can leave us feeling invincible! 🎪 Community and Connection: Carnivals bring people together from all walks of life. They teach us the importance of shared experiences, fostering connections, and building bonds with those around us. So, why are carnivals important? They’re a canvas where we paint our emotions in vivid hues, reminding us that the tapestry of human experience is a beautiful mosaic of feelings. What is your favourite thing about Carnivals? #EmbraceEmotions #CarnivalOfLife

🌈 Happy Pride! 🎉 As we celebrate love, acceptance, and equality, prioritize safety during the festivities. 🏳️🌈 Whether you're attending a parade, festival, or other Pride events, remember to stay vigilant and look out for yourself and others. Here are some tips to stay safe: ➡️Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade to avoid heat exhaustion. ➡️Keep an eye on your belongings and be cautious of pickpockets in crowded areas. ➡️Stick with friends or a buddy system to ensure everyone stays together and looks out for one another. ➡️Respect personal boundaries and ask for consent before physically contacting others. ➡️Familiarize yourself with the event's emergency procedures and locate the nearest exits or medical stations. ➡️If you're consuming alcohol, do so responsibly and know your limits. ➡️Be mindful of street closures and traffic changes, and plan your transportation accordingly. 🏳️⚧️Let's make this Pride Day a celebration filled with love, joy, and safety for all! 🌟 #PrideDay #SafetyFirst #LoveIsLove

The responses to this are alarming but not surprising. Read the article.
As a white marketing director leading majority-white teams in overwhelmingly white organisations, I am THRILLED by the introduction of Black Out performances in the UK. What a profoundly authentic audience development initiative. As arts administrators, we should do everything in our power to be as radically inclusive as we can. Not only does this break down barriers for Black audiences, it offers Black actors and creatives a safe environment free from the white gaze. As a white audience member, if you're outraged that just two out of 100 performances aren't for you, perhaps you should ask yourself why you feel entitled to dominate every space at all times? I'm disgusted by No 10 jumping into the fray here - it's a blatant attempt to stir up hate from the far right against Black theatremakers, and distract from the issues that really matter. https://lnkd.in/e8D7aKdA

Amplifying the strengths versus weaknesses In corporate we normally classify a lot of things in colour. For example if an action item is pending it’s likely to be marked in yellow. If it’s over due in red. And if it’s completed it is marked in green. This makes it easier to see where we are doing well and where we need improvement. Some one said in a meeting recently that the greens we don’t need action plans for. I disagree . These are the areas that need to be amplified more than the reds- we need to keep reinforcing what we are doing well. There is enough noise out there - let’s embrace peaceful music. Amplifying where we are doing well goes a long way to creating a more conducive culture.

A lot of us grew up being chastised for the marks we missed instead of being praised for what we got correct. Even if one gets 80%, the focus would be on the missing 20%. This feedback loop replays itself in adulthood where we focus on our weaknesses and downplay our strengths. It takes quite a bit of unlearning to operate to one's strengths. Learn2Lead, this is a great reminder that encourages leaders to seek flow and operate to their natural abilities instead of constantly trying to re-wire their brains. 🙏

The recent controversy surrounding the West End production of "Slave Play" in London has sparked important discussions about the need for spaces where marginalized communities, particularly Black individuals, can feel safe and celebrated. The decision to host Black Out Nights, specifically inviting Black audiences, has been met with both support and criticism. 🔍 It's essential to recognize that creating affinity spaces is not about exclusion but about providing a sense of belonging and safety for communities that have historically been marginalized. As playwright Jeremy O. Harris aptly explains, radical invitations are necessary to counteract the pervasive notion that certain groups do not belong in theater spaces. 🎟️ The intention behind Black Out Nights is not to enforce segregation but to actively welcome Black individuals into a space where they may not have felt comfortable or represented in the past. This initiative aims to break down barriers and foster a sense of inclusivity in an industry that has often overlooked or marginalized diverse voices. 💡 Harris's personal experience (which I completely fall into this category too) underscores the importance of initiatives like Black Out Nights. For many individuals from underrepresented backgrounds, access can be limited, and initiatives like this can serve as a gateway to experiencing and engaging with the arts. This moment is an opportunity to reflect on how we can create more inclusive and equitable spaces within the arts. By embracing diversity and actively inviting communities who've been underrepresented into the fold, we can enrich our cultural landscape and ensure that the arts truly belong to everyone. #Arts #Culture #Theater #UK #Race #AffinityGroups #DEI #RepresentationMatters #Inclusion #Equity #DiversityInArts #Intersectionality #BlackArtists #BIPOCRepresentation #SocialJustice #AccessToArts #Empowerment #RadicalInclusion #CommunityBuilding #ArtisticExpression #Empathy #SupportTheArts #CulturalEquity

1moPride activities at Alamo are just a small portion of why I love the Drafthouse. Old school Austin patron here 👋 now in CO and avid supporter of the season pass. I’ve always loved how you connect with your community and paint outside the lines. Keep it up!
