In an update from the Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Gen. (Dr.) V.K. Singh (Retd), critical financial and operational details regarding India's airport sector, have been shared.
The profit and loss statistics of 125 airports operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the fiscal year 2022-23 is whooping -461.59 Crore Rupees. (approx $56 Million)
Currently, the country has 14 airports operating under Public Private Partnerships (PPP). PPP-based airports reported a loss of -741.61 crores rupees (Approx $90 Million) during the fiscal year 2022-2023.
All airports in India reported a loss of $146 million in 2022-23.
It's planned that 25 AAI airports - including Bhubaneshwar, Varanasi, Amritsar, Trichy, Indore, Raipur, Calicut, Coimbatore, Nagpur, Patna, Madurai, Surat, Ranchi, Jodhpur, Chennai, Vijayawada, Vadodara, Bhopal, Tirupati, Hubli, Imphal, Agartala, Udaipur, Dehradun and Rajahmundry will be leased from 2022 to 2025 under the National Monetization Pipeline (NMP).
