Airports are similarly prioritizing self-service initiatives, placing a strong emphasis on the self-check-in and self-bag drop, with 86 % already setting plans for implementation in the next few years. Good for customers (no transfers and misconnection risk anymore in CDG or AMS; no customer ever asked for a hub), good for emissions (this eliminates an extra landing and emission-intensive take-off in the customer’s journey between LIN and JFK and smaller aircraft emit less), good for the airlines themselves (non-stop generates higher yields). We are seeing the hub & spoke operating model evolving to more point-to-point, and an associated downgauging of aircraft-size, to more A321’s and more E195 E2’s, as I elucidated in my 2 previous LinkedIn-articles on the subject.
