Last week, our colleague, Juraj Valent - Senior Sales Vice President, had a unique opportunity to attend an event hosted by AviaDev Africa in Windhoek, Namibia. 👏 The event provided us a valuable platform to engage with aviation partners, gain insights from industry peers, and establish meaningful connections. Juraj had the pleasure of meeting Tojosoa Lytah Razafimahefa, Chairman of the Confederation of Tourism of Madagascar, and discussing exciting prospects for collaboration. With our extensive experience in operating on the African continent, we are excited about the promising opportunities AviaDev has opened up for us! 🌎 #AirExplore #AviaDevAfrica #Aviation

Our CEO, Natalia Rosa, shared the stage with airline executives at a recent a AviaDev workshop. The talking point? The potential of national tourism boards to boost Africa air routes. Natalia wears many hats, one of them being the Project Lead of the SADC Business Council Tourism Alliance. At the workshop, hosted in collaboration with the SADC Business Council Tourism Alliance, airline executives emphasised the long-term economic growth African routes could spur, underlining the importance of air connectivity in developing Africa’s tourism industry. Natalia stressed: “Aviation is not a luxury, it's the lifeblood of a modern regional economy. Improved air connectivity unlocks a range of benefits: it streamlines travel, opens doors for new tourism markets, and strengthens regional economic ties.” The airline executives who joined the discussion: kojo Bentum-Williams, UN Tourism's Senior Africa Communications Expert, Sylvain Bosc, former Chief Commercial Officer of SAA and Fastjet, Gavin Eccles, Head of Vertical at BAE Ventures, Tim Harris, of Helm Growth Advisors, Jillian Blackbeard, CEO of Africa’s Eden Tourism Association. Did you know that the port of Turku was already known even in the Mediterranean countries in the 12th century? For that we are to thank the Arab Al-Idris who drew the port under the name Abuwa in his map in 1154. This year will therefore be 870 years since the first proven appearance of the port on maps. During the anniversary year, we take a peek into the past with the help of old photos. In post-war Finland, traveling abroad was only a distant dream. Even in the early 1950s, for example, a ferry trip to Sweden was considered a luxury. However, during the 1950s, tourism became more common, and as ferry travel became more popular, there was a demand for increased passenger capacity on ships. The steamship S/S Wellamo was built in 1927. After World War II, in 1945, the vessel was converted to be oil-heated and equipped with radar - the second Finnish vessel to do so. Wellamo's large passenger capacity served on the Turku–Mariehamn–Stockholm route between 1945–1960. #870thanniversary #throwbackthursday

Africa's Top 10 best Airports: Where Does Bole Airport Stand? In #Skytrax's 2024 regional rankings, it's notable that Bole International Airport does not appear on the top 10 list. Despite Ethiopian Airlines' status as Africa's most profitable carrier and boasting the continent's largest fleet of 135 aircraft, its hub is noticeably absent from these respected rankings. This omission points to potential areas where Bole Airport might enhance its offerings. Ethiopian Airlines' operational successes highlight a contrast that merits attention, especially given that Ethiopian Airlines and the Ethiopia Airport Enterprise are managed by separate entities, yet remain connected. Here are the TOP-10 best regional Airport in Africa: 1. Durban King Shaka. South Africa 🇿🇦 2. Marrakech. Morocco 🇲🇦 3. Kigali. Rwanda 🇷🇼 4. Port Elizabeth. South Africa 🇿🇦 5. Bloemfontein.
