Today I had an interesting talk on the local TV. Key points: Best safety tool is a well trained and rested pilot Status of the industry and ACMI concept. Government should pay the costs to Air Serbia to fly the national team, so it won't happen that other planes fly them. https://lnkd.in/dPmq-Xg7 #ETFairways

Martin Langaas and Ulv Elbirk report another win for Norway’s winter market at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Slot Conference in Dubai, even though their primary mission was to negotiate next summer’s capacity at Avinor’s airports✈️ The Avinor duo points to increased interest for Norway, due to people seeking tempered destinations with less extreme heat being a trend. True winter experiences north of the polar circle also see a rise in demand, injecting new urgency into the ongoing strategic development of regional destinations in Norway☃️ Martin and Ulv conclude that interest for Norway’s truly unique winter market keeps growing, with plenty of reasons for optimism for the future.

🛫 A Milestone Achieved in African Aviation 🌍The dream of Free Routing Flights in Africa became a reality! A historic achievement marked the collaboration and commitment of key stakeholders, including CANSO, African Airlines Association (AFRAA), International Air Transport Association (IATA), International Civil Aviation Organization, and Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs). In the Free Routing Airspace (FRA) Trial kick-off workshop, co-facilitated by CANSO, participants secured approvals for two trial flights. These flights operated safely outside existing routes, directly from Addis Ababa to Abidjan and Nairobi to Accra, significantly reducing flight time. The Impact: Implementing Free Routing Airspace will result in substantial cost savings for participating airlines and support a sustainable future for African aviation. Over a year, one-way flights will save 292 metric tonnes of fuel, prevent 340 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions, and reduce fuel bills significantly. 💹 With similar savings on return flights and 20 daily free routing flights, operators will reduce their CO2 footprint by 5 million metric tonnes and cut over USD 1.2 million from their fuel bills. The FRA project is part of the African Aviation Sustainability Laboratory's (AFRAA) initiative to revamp air transport in Africa - The next trials, in the first quarter, will contribute to making Free Routing Airspace a reality in 2024. We extend our gratitude to AFREXIMBANK and various ANSPs who played a crucial role in this groundbreaking achievement. Together, we're shaping the future of African aviation and embracing sustainability. An important step en-route to full membership!
Very happy to welcome Jon Gunnar Jonsson, Director General of the Icelandic Transport Authority, at our HQ as we take one step closer to integrating Iceland into the EUROCONTROL aviation family. ✈ Thanks to the Special Agreement signed today between EUROCONTROL and the Icelandic Transport Authority, our two organisations will partner to support Iceland in the run-up to them joining us as our 42nd Member State in January 2025. We are also happy to be welcoming Gudmundur Sigurdsson, the new Iceland State Liaison Officer, who is based at EUROCONTROL and will be helping to prepare for the accession. Looking forward to continuing building this partnership and welcoming Iceland as our 42nd Member State next year! 🤝
