easyJet is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its first Berlin flight, which flew to Schoenefeld from Liverpool on 28-Apr-2004. In 2018 easyJet added Berlin Tegel to its airport network when Air Berlin exited, and it soon became the biggest operator by seats in the German capital city. When Berlin Brandenburg Airport replaced its two predecessors on 31-Oct-2020, easyJet became the first airline to take off from the new airport the following day. easyJet expects to fly to more than 50 destinations from Berlin this summer, including five new destinations. Moreover, it has demonstrated its commitment to Brandenburg with on-site investments, including a hangar. Nevertheless, easyJet rationalised its Berlin operations in 2022 and it is far from its pre-pandemic capacity: for the week of 29-Jul-2024 its Brandenburg schedule has only 39% of the seats that it offered across Schoenefeld and Tegel in the equivalent week of 2019. In 2018 and 2019 easyJet was Berlin's biggest airline. Ryanair assumes that mantle this northern summer. CAPA - Centre for Aviation https://lnkd.in/exWQdGbp

A new generation agency, modern and anticipating the future of destination marketing. Strategically driven, digitally native. Currently focused on regenerative tourism, AI and transformative growth.
Condor is re-inventing itself in 2024: In the tourism segment, where Condor has its DNA, the focus will be on the luxury segment. This will also help the airline to better utilise its premium seats. One thing is already clear: expansion is on the cards on long-haul routes, where Condor flies against the still young Lufthansa company Discover Airlines, among others. The long-haul fleet will grow to 18 jets by the end of 2024. By 2027, there will be 21 Airbus 330 Neo aircraft. "Then it could make sense to open a long-haul base in Düsseldorf," suggests Lesjak. The new seats are a great opportunity for Lesjak, who can look back on a good sales year in 2023: he also wants to attract business travellers to Condor in future and thus make even better use of Business Class. The brand-new long-haul jets will fly primarily to North America in summer 2024. 13 destinations in the USA and five in Canada are on the schedule. #FVW #DestinationCanada #Condor

✈️ Norse Atlantic Airways Soars with Doubled Passenger Numbers in April Norse Atlantic Airways experienced a significant surge in passenger numbers last month, more than doubling its figures from the previous year as it geared up for the summer season. The budget long-haul carrier transported 98,500 passengers in April, marking a remarkable 102% increase compared to April 2023. With 398 flights operated and an average load factor of 79%, up by 12 percentage points from the previous year, Norse Atlantic demonstrated strong growth in operations. Bjorn Tore Larsen, CEO and founder of Norse Atlantic, commented on the achievement, stating, "April represented another strong month for Norse as we ramped up the number of flights as part of our summer schedule. In addition, we welcomed more than double the number of passengers compared to the same period last year and look forward to a busy summer ahead." He added, "We completed a record high of 61 charter operations throughout the month, as we now move to increase flying on our own network during the summer season." Norse Atlantic's expansion plans include operating 12 Boeing 787 Dreamliners this summer, flying transatlantic routes from Oslo, Athens, London Gatwick, Berlin, Rome, and Paris. Additionally, the airline has announced new routes for next winter, from Gatwick to both Cape Town and Las Vegas. #NorseAtlantic #AirlineIndustry #PassengerGrowth #SummerTravel #TravelNews #BudgetTravel

According to AIR SERVICE ONE analysis of Cirium airline schedules data for March to October 2024, airlines have already announced plans to launch well over 600 new routes involving European airports. Leading the way with well over 100 is, no surprise, Ryanair - Europe's Favourite Airline. Then comes easyJet, Volotea, Norwegian and Jet2.com and Jet2holidays all with at least 30 new routes planned. But where is Wizz Air? The last three years (2021-2023) has seen the carrier launch more new European routes than any other carrier except Ryanair. Are we about to get a batch of new route launch press releases from Wizz Air, or is this a year of consolidation for the airline?

📰 Last week Iberia's CEO Marco Sansavini shared that Iberia will become the launch customer of #Airbus 321XLR on Transatlantic market. The plane will be deployed on Madrid-Boston and -Washington D.C. routes, however it has not been decided yet which route will take the lead. ✈ Airbus 321XLR launch has been awaited for a long time and is expected to revolutionalize flying. It will enable airlines to open new non-stop routes between cities that cannot sustain profitable wide-body operations. It will help grow long-haul frequencies or maintain routes characterized by significant seasonality year-round. Multiple airlines globally have ordered this aircraft, including American Airlines United Airlines Aer Lingus Air Canada and Iberia, among others. 💡 I decided to run a what-if scenario, using our Lufthansa Systems NetLine/Plan tool, for IB's MAD-BOS route to see what can the new fleet bring to the table. Currently, Iberia operates the route daily in Summer, using its 292-seater A330-300 fleet. Their XLRs will feature 182 seat configuration (38% less than A333) and I can only imagine that it is not the airline's intention to shrink its size in USA. The scenario I developed assumes downgauging the existing 1 PM departure rotation to XLR and adding a 2nd daily, also operated by XLR, in their 4 PM bank out of Madrid. For simplicity, I maintained the existing block times and added AA, AY, BA and QR codes to the new rotation (copied from the existing one). As it turns out, such a scenario would likely make a lot of sense: 1️⃣ 2x daily A321XLR operations mean 25% capacity increase. 2nd daily flight also increases passenger choice options, untapping multiple new itineraries! 2️⃣ Load Factor could see up to 9ppts boost, coming vastly from connecting traffic (80% of the incremental passengers). 3️⃣ Iberia could see up to 3ppts Market Share increase on MAD-BOS vv., and a similar one on the overall Spain-BOS. On top of that, 2ppts on France-BOS and 1ppts on Italy-BOS. Morocco-BOS would see the biggest impact, with up to 14ppts share boost! 🗣 What do you guys think about it? Any guesses where else could Iberia deploy their A321XLRs? Let me know your thoughts and feel free to reach out and/or discuss! ⚙️NetLine/Plan is an industry leading tool, used by 20 airlines globally, as well as various OEMs and consultancies. It supports decision making process related to airline network planning. It forecasts load-factors, as well as profitability, based on global schedules and market size as well as revenue and cost data. It can easily help analyze gauge changes, additional frequencies or new fleet performance. And it does it incredibly quick! #avgeek #aviation #lufthansasystems Nuria García Álvarez de Sotomayor

SAS Scandinavian Airlines will add Atlanta to its US network in northern summer 2024, but will not resume two routes from secondary Scandinavian cities to New York Newark after launching them in 2023. It only operated the services from Aalborg (Denmark) and Gothenburg (Sweden) from Apr-2023 until the end of Oct-2023. However, the broader picture for SAS in the market between Scandinavia and the United States is looking fairly solid. Compared with 2019 – before the COVID-19 pandemic, and before the withdrawal of the low cost competitor Norwegian Air Shuttle from all three Scandinavia-US markets – SAS now has more capacity and a higher seat share. It has increased its focus on its hub in Copenhagen, making Denmark-US even more dominant in the Scandinavia-US market than it already was. Norse Atlantic Airways has only partially replaced Norwegian's capacity, and only in Norway-US. Against this backdrop, the demise of SAS' two Newark routes after just one summer season can be viewed as mere tinkering. CAPA - Centre for Aviation

I think of big planes as a niche service. A plane trip to me is not a journey to document & savor, but a way to get to the destination. Big planes are like mass transit for me. German airline Lufthansa recently announced that it will add three non-stop flights between its home in Germany and the United States, with first ever service to Raleigh-Durham International and Minneapolis St. Paul International, starting in summer 2024. As of summer 2024, Lufthansa will offer a total of 27 U.S. destinations, more than before the Covid-19 pandemic. Service will be added to both Raleigh-Durham and Minneapolis St. Paul from Frankfurt, while from Munich, Lufthansa will fly for the first time to Seattle Tacoma International. Service to Minneapolis will operate five times a week, beginning June 4. Service to Raleigh-Durham will operate five times a week, beginning June 6. Service from Munich to Seattle will operate using an Airbus A350, complementing existing service between Seattle and Frankfurt on Lufthansa. Lufthansa will also bring back its super jumbo, the Airbus A380, with service from Munich to New York Kennedy International, Boston Logan International, Washington Dulles International and Los Angeles International. #airtravel #airlines

Volotea is a Barcelona-headquartered, Spanish-registered airline. It has recently announced that its seat capacity in Spain this northern summer will be 13% higher than in 2023, and 85% higher than 2019. However, it has more capacity in France and Italy than in Spain, and almost as much in Greece as in Spain. It has 21 bases in five countries (Spain, Greece, Italy, France and Germany) and its network serves 16 countries in total. Already well ahead of its 2019 capacity and traffic in 2023, its network-wide seat count this northern summer is 46% above summer 2019. Positioned between Europe's leading low cost airlines and regional airlines and focusing on small and medium-sized cities, Volotea has been one of European aviation's most consistent growth stories over the past decade. Aegean Airlines recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. On 28-May-1999 its initial fleet of two Avro RJ100s operated its first flights from Athens to Heraklion and Thessaloniki. Since then it has acquired the former flag carrier Olympic Air (in 2013) and established itself as Greece's leading airline. Today the group flies 249 routes and has a fleet of 63 Airbus narrowbodies and 16 turboprops. In 2023 Aegean Airlines Group posted its highest-ever revenue and profits for the second year running, with double digit EBIT margins, in spite of low cost airlines' growth and market share gains in Greece. In the face of strong competition and a sometimes difficult domestic economy, Aegean's first quarter century has proved its powers of endurance. CAPA - Centre for Aviation https://lnkd.in/eNmvti68
