One of my more recent roles allowed me the opportunity to support a diverse team of personalities, responsibilities, and roles. I’ve found that even with the differences, every member of my team responded favorably when I took the time to understand them. It wasn’t about understanding what their job duties are, their resume, hopes and dreams, etc.; it was about getting to know the person on my team. This helped me better understand my team and how to be more compassionate in interactions instead of transactional. One such employee (widowed with a young child) was getting burned out even though they were the most organized and passionate person in their department, and the right fit for the position. I was proactive in trying to reduce their burnout by offering flexible work arrangements, time off for emotionally hard anniversaries, professional development opportunities, expanded duties, and anything else in my power. Compassion is an essential part of any workplace, and this level of compassionate leadership is what helps reduce burnout and retain top talent. When we approach our colleagues with compassion, we build stronger relationships, foster trust, and create a more positive work environment. Ready to learn how you can be more compassionate in the workplace? Schedule an intro call with me today!
