A sprayable gel that can seal wounds? MIT Jameel Clinic - AI & Health PI Elazer Edelman recently co-authored a paper with Gonzalo Muñoz Taboada, Daniel Dahis, Pere Dosta Pons, Ph.D., and Natalie Artzi in which they developed a hydrogel sealant called GastroShield that can be sprayed through an endoscope. Hydrogels are used for surgical procedures because they are soft and flexible, yet many hydrogels quickly lose adhesion, especially when used for gastrointestinal (GI) procedures. As such, there is no commercially available sealant that is able to effectively prevent post-operative and delayed GI complications (3-7 days after surgery). While GastroShield's main advantage is that can be sprayed on wounds resulting from colon surgery, researchers have found a broad array of applications for GastroShield including treating stomach ulcers and inflammatory conditions like Crohn's. MIECC setup for Thoracoabdominal Aortic Reconstruction; -With the MIECC (biocompatible) circuit, perfusion management is possible using lower ACT and less anticoagulant in thoracoabdominal aortic surgery. -By adapting the configuration to visceral perfusion and using cell-saver, fewer complications and better intraoperative and postoperative results are aimed. -With the hard-shell reservoir on the Type 4 MIECC, emergency aspirations can be made and quickly added to the circulation. -Distal and central hemodynamic management can be easily managed with the cannulation strategy used and the integrated connection from the reservoir to the venous line in the circuit. -Additionally, hypothermia can be kept under control by using an oxygenator with increased biocompatibility. -All this is compact and integrated, so installation is easy. ---We plan to publish detailed circuit drawings and case reports soon.---

Endometriosis excision is a technique by which all endometriosis tissues are entirely removed using various tools. Excision can be done via laparoscopic route or robotic surgery. Excision also allows to remove the disease from organs where it’s not safe to just burn the disease, such as bowels or ureters. Excision can be used for both superficial and deep endometriosis. Studies, experts and patients' experience show that surgical excision is the best treatment for endometriosis. Excision allows for the removal of the entire endometriosis lesion including its root while avoiding damage to organs in the pelvis. Ablation also known as vaporisation, fulguration, coagulation or cauterization that involves burning the lesions to remove them, as such only the top of the lesion is being burned off. The roots remain in place leading to a higher rate of recurrence. Also ablation cannot be used on organs such as bowel due to the risk of burning them. Incomplete removal of lesions can continue to cause pain and other severe symptoms, regardless of the size of endometriosis tissues. #ablationsurgery #excisionsurgery #endometriosisspecialistsurgery #endometriosisindia #endometriosisexcision #endometriosisawareness #drvimeebindra #copeclinics #endometrosiscentre #endometriosiscenter

https://lnkd.in/dzG-vSnv Undergoing major gastrointestinal (GI) surgery can be challenging enough for a patient without the worry of a grave yet common aftereffect that requires urgent corrective surgery and a lengthy hospital stay – or worse. Israeli startup Exero Medical has come up with a way of keeping tabs on the surgical site after such a procedure, looking for a localized rupture that has hitherto been extremely difficult to detect. “People undergo the surgery and then need to stay in hospital for a few days just to verify that they’re okay,” he explains. “[But] if they’re not doing okay, in most cases they’re diagnosed when it’s already too late.” “This is a huge problem with substantial impact,” Exero CEO and co-founder Erez Shor tells NoCamels. Exero’s solution is xBar – a small, biocompatible sensor embedded temporarily at the surgical site. This sensor monitors healing and records any changes that could signify looming serious complications. “Monitoring for GI surgeries is a big deal,” Shor says. “The benefits we can provide, we’ll start with that.” #medtech #GastrointestinalSurgery #surgicalsite #sensorsolutions #israelinnovation #medtechinnovation #sensormonitoring #surgeryrecovery #gisurgery https://lnkd.in/dzG-vSnv

Post-operative Gastrointestinal Dysfunction (POGD) occurs in nearly every patient after abdominal surgery and is characterized by temporary impairment of bowel function due to swollen intestines following surgery. This condition stands as the primary driver of post-operative stay after abdominal surgery, extending recovery periods from 4 to 14 days. Up to 20% of patients develop bloating nausea, vomiting, and further delay in recovery of intestinal function and this is what the literature defines as post-op ileus (POI). Noleus Technologies recognizes the urgent need for innovation in this area and is on a mission to redefine post-operative care. Leveraging proprietary technology, our solution aims to reliably accelerate bowel function recovery after abdominal surgery, targeting the root cause of POI. By implementing our solution, we aim to expedite patient recovery, improve nutritional outcomes, and significantly reduce hospital stays.
