Now trending, this article from August 2023 by Jill Johnston, Arbor Quist, Sandy Navarro, Shohreh Farzan, PhD & Bhavna Shamasunder! Talk about impact: "Our study suggests that living near urban oil drilling sites is significantly associated with greater diastolic blood pressure in urban Los Angeles communities. This research improves understanding of impacts from living nearby drilling operations on the health and welfare of this community, which is critical to inform public health relevant strategies." See what all of 'the fuss' is about 😉 : https://lnkd.in/dxePWkTS #Cardiovascular #Health #Urban #Oil #LA #Exposure #Science #Environment #Epidemiology

Geography of Health https://amzn.eu/d/bjmPZ78 Dear Readers Book is now available on online platforms #health #epidemiology #geography Health geography has its crux in spatial distribution of various geographical phenomenons influencing multiple aspects of human health. The book discusses the aetiology of human health. It also elaborates on human development processes and their impact on environment and human health. The book tries to put forth the spatial epidemiology of communicable and non communicable diseases in India and the world, based on authentic published sources of national and international organizations. The book devotes one full chapter on types of mental health and their prevalence in the world based on authentic sources of information. The book also talks about Global Health Organizations and other national and international agencies. It also discusses Healthcare system in India, its merits and drawbacks. The geographical variations generate complexity in understanding cause and effect relationship between environment and human health. The book thus is organized in a simplified way and tries to structure the complex aspects for the readers. I hope readers get benefitted from the book and get encouraged working on one of the most dynamic and extremely relevant theme of Geography of Health.

In recognition of #worldimmunizationweek, let us pause to recognize the contribution to science by English statistician John Graunt was born in London, England on 24 April 1620. Although a haberdasher by trade, his interest in mathematics and statistics would lead him to become a pioneer in demographics and epidemiology. Using records of death, he developed the first known “life table” that gave statistical probabilities of mortality by age. He later applied his statistical formulas to public health statistics that tracked disease outbreaks. Although some members of the Royal Society objected to the election of a mere tradesman to their ranks, the 1661 publication of his seminal work in ‘Natural and Political Observations Made Upon the Bills of Mortality’ earned the endorsement of English King Charles II to its membership. His data collection methods for his “Table of Casualties” would become the initial training guide for similar research for generations to come. The availability of the data he created would greatly enhance decision making and policy guidance, thus creating a market place demand for a wide variety of what we now refer to as demographic data. #epidemiology #demographic #actuary #publichealth #globalhealth

🎉 Our latest paper on the link between environmental factors and metabolic health is now published! Our study reveals new insights into how our environment affects metabolic health. We've found evidence that in urban areas, adverse environmental factors are associated with a higher prevalence of metabolic diseases such as diabetes and obesity, especially in men. 🔍 Want to dive into the details? Check out our published paper for more details: https://lnkd.in/djytSkpK #MetabolicHealth #EnvironmentalFactors #ResearchInsights 📊🔬
Excited to announce our latest publication 🚀 ! Check out our latest publication in Environmental Research titled 𝐒𝐞𝐱-𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 – 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐎𝐑𝐀 𝐅𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲! Research by Fiona Niedermayer and colleagues reveals that higher air pollution, temperature, and lack of greenness are linked to diabetes in men. Moreover, associations of environmental exposures with obesity showed an additional effect modification by urbanization, suggesting adverse effects of higher air pollution and lack of greenness on obesity in men living in urban areas. Overall this study emphasizes the relationship between environmental exposures and metabolic health, with notable sex differences and additional effect modification by urbanization. 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/djytSkpK #Epidemiology #Urbanization #Metabolic #Obesity #Diabetes #Environment #AirPollution #EnvironmentalResearch #KORAStudy
