At the recent Venture Leaders event, Swiss startups pitched innovative ideas to a jury, leading to Key Takeaways from the VCs on the panel:   1️⃣ Misconceptions European Founders Have Success in Europe is a great, but cracking the U.S. market requires local traction. European founders often underestimate how long it takes to get the first customer in the U.S. Only after securing those initial customers will their startup become appealing to venture capitalists (VCs) in the U.S.   2️⃣ Red Flags in Startup Evaluation A significant red flag when evaluating startups is encountering single founders. This implies that the complexities and challenges of running a startup might be underestimated, and the collaborative effort often required for success might be lacking. It’s tough for the founder to do it alone.   3️⃣ Advice repeatedly given to founders Leverage the higher valuation scales in the U.S. Start your business in Europe, then build and exit in U.S. Valuation will be twice as high.   This event not only showcased new ideas but also provided valuable strategic insights for founders looking to scale and succeed internationally. In 2022, Nordic startups collectively secured $11.7 billion in funding. According to Eurostat 2022, all Nordic countries surpass the EU average in AI adoption, with Denmark leading at 24%, followed by Finland at 16%, Norway at 11%, and Sweden at 10%. AI-influenced revenue for Nordic companies doubled between 2019 and 2022, with a projected triple increase over the next three years.
