Another excellent use case for Databricks this time in the food and beverages industry demonstrated by The Hershey Company with the support of Advancing Analytics. We've made huge strides in data science at NielsenIQ. Just six months ago, 80-90% of our processes were manual. We did an inventory across 700 team members, working to identify and prioritize our plan for automation, and came up with a staggering figure. 50,000 processes needed to be updated by 2025. Crazy, right? 😩 The challenge was that, for a hundred years now, people did things their own way, and were able to achieve positive results. With the pace of change and the rise in e-commerce, this was no longer sustainable or future-proof. We needed to find a way to standardize our goals and methodology, and deliver the same outcomes. It required automation - plain and simple. How’d we do it? Once we audited our processes, we consolidated them into groups that could be clustered and determined top priorities. We started with those that would make the biggest impact and worked our way from there. The goal was to improve accuracy, efficiency and speed of delivery. In four months, we’ve made our way through 80% of the list - a big win! Especially because it freed up significant time for those people who used to be handling all that manual entry to work on automating the rest. Despite the fact that we haven’t finished, the quality of our data has significantly improved. The changes we’ve made have supercharged our ability to deliver actionable insights. You just can’t do this kind of work at scale anymore without using technology, and machine learning specifically. The volume of data is too great, and the speed at which it’s produced is accelerating. It can be a laborious process, so get ahead of it while you can. #innovation #TheFullView #NIQ
