Genuine co-operation between companies and education providers is the best way of developing education to respond the needs of the labour market. Omnia has encouraged its key development teachers in both Auto Cove 2.0 project and Mosaic - project to do a teachers' job shadowing in the field's vanguard companies as part of their development work. Here is the report from Omnia automotive teachers Jan Borg and Juha Hämäläinen, who utilized this opportunity by spending one week each at Auto Cove partner company: Bilia Oy. Vehicle technology is developing at a breath-taking speed and most teachers, who teach it at vocational colleges and universities, have no experience of servicing electrified vehicles of their very complicated safety systems. And still they should be able to teach becoming vehicle mechanics and engineers the skills, needed in workshops now and in future. This skills-gap is a challenge, which Auto Cove 2.0 project is now tackling by developing study modules about servicing modern vehicles, their charging and battery systems and advanced driver assistant systems. In the end of this project, we will share all modules on Dutch Electude International e-learning platform to be used, free of cost, by any vehicle education provider, for five years. This means, it is worth staying updated:) #Autocove, #Coveprojects, #Erasmus , #workbasedlearning

Germany Emil Frey training center opened in Würzburg! The new Emil Frey training center in Würzburg has now started work. February 2024 Würzburg, Emil Frey Press With an area of around 360 square meters, it offers the company's young talent more space for individual development. The premises were converted specifically for training purposes, including the renovation of infrastructure, offices and sanitary areas. The modern, bright rooms have six permanent workstations, practical concepts and high-quality technical equipment. The new location, which was inaugurated with a trainer workshop, is part of Emil Frey's strategy to meet the growing number of training courses and the changing requirements for the respective job profile. With a total of two training centers (each in Stuttgart and Würzburg), the company can better respond to the needs of its trainees. The number of trainees has increased from around 100 to 316 prospective automotive mechatronics technicians in the last ten years. The focus of training is now more on cognitive skills rather than purely manual skills, reflecting the changes in the industry. Both locations promote active learning and the individual development of trainees. In the future, other target groups could also benefit from the premises, including master craftsmen and automobile salespeople. #emilfrey #emilfreyde #emilfreydeutschland #training #automotive #automobileindustry

I was reminded after a recent conversation of the vitality and importance of hands on learning. A major part of the engineering excellence and quality in Toyota and Honda products is focusing on "Gemba learning". Gemba is "the actual place work is done". At Toyota, degrees do not excuse engineers, executives or managers from their mandatory 3 month role when they start: all new hires regardless of education or experience start on the assembly line, building cars. They take the role of operator, machinist, technician, and then spend months after that rotating and shadowing department. The Gemba mean an Engineer or business leader at Toyota or Honda is not able to engineer a process or have influence over a process or design without being intimately familiar with the factory floor manufacturing. And tbe exprrience of those actually making parts. This minimizes assumptions, and the pioneers of the Toyota way are blunt that "white glove office dwelling engineers are not true engineers" because a real engineer walks the shop floor, respects and humbly considers the conditions machinists and operators deal with in reality. cars are crafted by engineers constantly engaged with the feasibility of manufacturing through gemba, not theoretical assumptions and data alone.
