More than 500 million people living on small and marginal farms in India continue to face challenges like degraded soil and water resources, high costs of irrigation and cultivation, extreme weather-linked crop and livestock stress, drudgery in farm operations, distress in post-harvest management and limited income from allied activities. All these problems limit productivity and earnings, increase losses and amplify operational anxiety and the financial risk of farming. At Friends of WWB India, we are committed to empowering farming communities with affordable and efficient technologies that can help save time, improve productivity, and ultimately increase their income. As part of this mission, we recently supported a farm micro-enterprise for Primary Cleaning and Grading at Lunsapuriya FPO, Jafrabad block.  This innovative unit is mobile and tractor-operated, making it easy to move around fields as needed. It can clean and grade a wide range of crops, including cereals, pulses, and oilseeds. By using this machine for primary level cleaning and grading, farmers can sell their produce directly to retail consumers and get better prices, or they can sell in the market/APMC and receive a higher market price.  Overall, this initiative has the potential to significantly enhance the quality and quantity of crops, ultimately benefitting both farmers and consumers alike.
