My Journey as a Oceangoing Watchkeeping Engineer, choosing a career at sea was not an easy decision, but it was one driven by a passion for adventure and a love for the unknown. As a oceangoing watchkeeping engineer, I have embarked on journeys that have tested my skills, endurance, and courage in ways I never imagined. Every day on board is a lesson in itself. It’s not just about operating and maintaining complex machinery; it’s about solving problems under pressure, making critical decisions, and collaborating with colleagues from all over the world. The ocean teaches humility, patience, and strength, pushing you to grow in unexpected and rewarding ways. One of the aspects I value most in my profession is the practical nature of the work. Every shift is an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how the machinery operates and to ensure the vessel performs at its best. This process involves not only applying theoretical knowledge but also refining hands-on skills and enhancing analytical thinking. There is a great sense of satisfaction in carefully inspecting every detail of the ship’s systems and proactively identifying potential issues before they arise. Wishing everyone in the maritime industry success on this fascinating journey… #maritime #lifeatsea #bulkcarriers #lloyd

Technical director | Loading Systems, Technip Energies | I help jetty and terminal operators to get the most value of their assets
Guess how many #swivels have been assembled to make this amazing 🤿articulated diving suit looking like a giant 🦞 lobster, already in the late 1️⃣9️⃣th century ? a) Well, 🙄 I don't have any idea 💡 what a swivel is (and if you want to know 🙋♂️, please comment this post), b) Hmmm, 🧐 I would need first to visit the Musée national de la Marine ⚓🚢to assess in detail this prototype (and I definitively recommend visiting this museum that just re-opened last November), c) Whatever the number, the leather gaskets were leaking as not able to sustain the hydrostatic pressure 🤦♀️ (supposed to be designed for 6️⃣0️⃣m water depth), d) Should you want to talk about real swivels 🤩, you better have to contact Technip Energies #loadingsystems as they master how to design and manufacture #swivel joints compatible with delta pressure and temperature gradient, for #marineloadingarms application (not diving suits), e) "a) then b), c), d) hence e)", don't hesitate to #applynow to open #engineering positions referenced in my profile such as https://lnkd.in/e263xfhX and #bepartofthesolution

Be manufactured to recognized codes or standards. 2. Be equipped with an overpressure relief device. 3. Proper PPE should be worn by all personnel when charging cylinders. Proper labeling of contents (bottom mix) should be visible on the bottle. It is further recommended that complete discharge of the bottom mix be conducted after the dive if the bottle is charged with a mixture other than air. Please do a safety standown until your Supervisor/Instructors know how to check a diver out before entering the water. - Christopher Martin 🇺🇸 U.S. Department of Labor U.S. Department of Education OSHA'S § 1910.421 Pre-dive procedures (including reserves); (d) Planning and assessment. Overstated job titles or misleading descriptions onboard #superyachts: -> #medic: there are very, very few superyachts with dedicated medical/doctor #onboard. Most likely, a #paramedic or #firstresponder certified. Onboard #cruiseships - there is a different story! -> captain on ( /-) 18-21m LOA yacht - well… is just a #skipper, with offshore #yachtmaster license. Nothing to do with the real “#Captain” 👨✈️. -> #diveinstructor: 99% of the posted jobs are coming with a completion: deckhand/dive instructor (or #divemaster). 90% of the job description is #deck related, just 10% is #diving related. But the main job title is “Dive”, which is misleading the potential candidates. Very few superyachts are holding a full time, 100% dedicated dive professional only! Stay tuned. More 🍋 to follow!

Aircraft fuel tank diving involves inspecting and maintaining the internal parts of fuel tanks in aircraft. This process is crucial because fuel tanks can accumulate contaminants or suffer from structural issues that might affect the aircraft's safety and performance. Typically, this inspection requires specialized equipment and techniques. Divers use safety gear to access the tanks, often by entering through inspection ports or manholes. They may clean the tank, check for corrosion, verify the integrity of internal components, and ensure there are no leaks or other issues. Due to the confined space and potential hazards, this work is highly regulated and performed by trained professionals. It's part of routine aircraft maintenance to ensure the aircraft remains in optimal operating condition. #Aircraftfueltankdiving #AirIndia #AircraftMainetnance

OSHA & Coast Guard CFRs differ on Minimum manning Levels. a. A diving company can have two diving jobs going on inside the 3 Mile limit. One coming under OSHA CFRs the other under Coast Guard CFRs. The OSHA job diving off a small platform and the Coast Guard a boat with a licensed Captain or in a deep water port. 1. Manning levels requirements are different OSHA Minimum manning level 3 , Coast Guard Minimum manning 5 2) Reporting and Investigation of Serious Diving Incidents Standards and paperwork are different see Attached. a. This is an extra burden on the employers and employees b. Currently OSHA nor the Coast Guard have a satisfactory way of investigating serious accidents and issuing a timely reports. What they do have is vastly different. 3) Under the current CFRs both OSHA and the Coast Guard the Dive Supervisor is the only person listed as having any responsibility. They both require only that he be appointed by name and require no proof of knowledge or training for the position. (See Attached Petition) John Carl Roat

5 Jobs Deck Cadets Have to Perform Onboard (Part 1) 1. Tank Soundings: Almost all deck cadets are asked to check tank soundings on a regular basis. Generally taken after the 0400-0800 watch (before or right after breakfast), soundings are very crucial for ensuring the stability of the vessel. 2. Ship Maintenance: Generally, one deck of the superstructure is assigned to the cadet. Maintenance of that includes overall cleanliness and reporting of any abnormalities within the area. 3. LSA/FFA Maintenance: Thorough maintenance of the life saving appliances LSA and FFA is extremely important. Generally a part of the 3rd Mate responsibilities this work is assigned to the cadets so that they learn the procedures 4. Deck Work: Assisting the ship’s bosun in everyday deck work is embedded into any cadet’s daily schedule. This is basically grounding work, seemingly unimportant at the start, but builds the framework for the coming years as an officer. 5. Berthing/Unberthing Operations: The entire deck crew is present at their respective stations to get the vessel to berth/cast off close to perfection. A cadet starts out at the stations as a sort of a rating, doing mainly the physical work. As time goes by and experience is gained, his job switches to more of a supervisory nature, wherein the cadet is expected to relay the orders of the Master to the ratings, ensuring that the operation runs smoothly and in order. #deckcadet #LNGtanker #LNG #deckofficer #Workatsea #MaritimeIndustry #Shipping #MarineOperations #SeafarerLife #SafetyAtSea
