Children who experience trauma will most often blame themselves and view the responsible party favorably. Growing into adulthood they seek to numb or escape the pain and engage in destructive activities, which further validate their view of themselves as "bad" and worthless (shame) human beings. We then need to help them rework their system; realize the purpose they engaged in destructive behaviors, acknowledge their innocence, recognize the loss of a innocent childhood, identify the responsible parties, and own their full story. Understanding leads to compassion. Compassion leads to empowerment. Empowerment leads to better choices.

Free Webinar: The Evolutionary Purpose of Shame: Why we need to Embrace Shame Saturday, October 14, 2023 10:00 AM 1:00 PM Worldwide - Live only - Pacific Time Shame comes from isolation, from boundary violations and from an inability to tolerate difference. As therapists and helpers, we have an important role to play in healing the shame which separates us from ourselves and each other. By looking at shame as a painful, but useful, source of information, of where we need to and long to heal, it can be embraced instead of resisted. We can focus on coming together and being united, on reaching out rather than pulling in and blaming others, and on choosing hope over fear. This workshop is in celebration of our new book: Embracing Shame: How to Stop Resisting Shame and Transform It Into a Powerful Ally. Please share this with someone to spread the work. https://lnkd.in/gRBzmKxQ
