🌞 Major Solar Shift in South Africa: What You Need to Know! 🌬️ Renewable energy projects are keeping civil construction buzzing in South Africa, even as we see a significant shift from solar to wind energy. The latest FNB/BER Civil Confidence Index reveals that over 55% of respondents are feeling the pressure, with confidence dipping slightly. However, the future looks bright with work expected to increase and a noticeable improvement in the pipeline of projects. While solar energy remains crucial, wind energy is stepping up as a reliable source of baseload power, especially during those cloudy days and nights. At VRE Ventures, we're dedicated to supporting this transition with top-notch solar inverters, lithium batteries, solar panels, generators, solar accessories, BESS solutions, and UPS solutions. Read our latest blog article for a detailed look at these industry trends and what they mean for South Africa’s renewable energy future. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/duRHmfH6 For all your solar needs, don't hesitate to reach out to us. Hive is currently actively developing solar projects in 15 countries, including Serbia. Serbia adopted a new set of rules for grid connection applications for renewable energy projects in 2023. Government regulations now permit developers to submit grid connection requests twice a year on projects more than 10 MWs. The first deadline was December 1st 2023, following the TSO publishing instructions on November 13th. For the December 1st deadline, we submitted four solar projects to TSO. The projects range from 40 to 65 MW and have been submitted with accompanying battery storage proposals. https://lnkd.in/dyv8mwkR Power Reports Kenya The market for productive uses of solar energy in Kenya: a status report The Energising Development (EnDev) programme recognises the positive impact the productive use of solar energy (PUE) can have both on solar companies and their customers. In cooperation with the Kenya Renewable Energy Association (KEREA) PUE Working Group (WG), the SNV Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV), as part of EnDev Kenya, commissioned this study of the Kenyan PUE market to give stakeholders an up-to-date view of the space and recommendations to support its growth. #africanpowerplatform #africapowerplatform #energyaccess #PowerAfrica #PAYG #energy #cleanenergy #Africa #renewables #renewable #renewableenergy #electricity #electrification #minigrids #microgrids #offgrid #solar #wind #biomass #solarpower #solarenergy #windpower #windenergy #hydropower #hydroenergy #SE4ALL #SDG7 https://lnkd.in/dyv8mwkR

Before sharing news, it's crucial to conduct thorough research. The Pakistan government has not approved any wind or solar electricity projects since 2017, as per RE policy 2019, which mandates projects to go through a bidding process. K-Electric is also not permitted to implement any renewables without bidding. In Sind, only 100 MW of grid solar panels have been installed to-date, raising questions about land availability. Land solar projects typically require one acre per MW, with a tariff of approximately $0.5/kWh. If solar panels are placed on lakes, the tariff can escalate to $0.8-0.9/kWh due to increased capital costs. Could this be a strategy to repurpose parts of lakes into holiday resorts? #Pakistan #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower

RENEWABLE ENERGY POTENTIALS IN EAST AFRICA East Africa boasts an impressive annual average solar irradiation of 2100 kWh/m2 and moderate wind speeds, typically hovering around 5.5 m/s but capable of reaching up to 8 m/s. East Africa stands out as home to some of the most promising zones for solar photovoltaic energy, particularly in Ethiopia, Kenya,Uganda, and Tanzania, and for wind energy, particularly in Kenya. With only 1% utilization of suitable land for energy project development, the technically installable capacities stand at 1.067 gigawatts for solar power and 47,2 gigawatts for wind power. Moreover, Ethiopia offers significant potential for large-scale hydropower projects, while the region is currently using less than 5% of its geothermal capacity, mostly in Kenya and Ethiopia. #gizasystems #windenergy #renewableenergy

☀️Grid constraints: South Africa’s journey to a just energy transition Northern Cape is home to some of the best solar irradiation resources in the world, as well as solid wind energy potential. But there’s a problem: the national power grid, which was built decades ago, was designed to evacuate electricity from the coal-rich Mpumalanga province and wasn’t planned with solar and wind in mind. Because of this, the transmission network linking the Northern Cape to the rest of the country is inadequate. There are 122 private renewable energy projects across South Africa and 75% of them are in three provinces: Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and Western Cape. Eskom says there is no more grid capacity available for new projects in those three provinces. 🔗 Explore more: South Africa’s Road to a Just Energy Transition https://lnkd.in/d8aWtczf 📊For more like this, sign up to our weekly data-driven newsletter: https://lnkd.in/dbheKp3H
