It is widely appreciated that there are pronounced sex differences in #CardiovascularDiseases (CVD): disease onset, susceptibility, prevalence as well as treatment outcomes. Altough this is a well-known fact, there is still room for improvement in daily research practice: for example, the balanced use of biomaterial, animals or cell lines. Incorporating these aspects often means additional efforts: doubled sample number, potentially doubled costs or at least double analysis. For several reasons, it is therefore a delicate balance of resources, ethics and outcome. Within #curATime, the project curACulture aims to draw attention on gender inclusive research. At the first curAMeet conference last week, Romina Wolz received the curAEquality Award 2024 for her outstandingly Gender and Diversity inclusive research in her curATime subproject "Role of macrophage coagulation signaling in atherosclerosis". Romina is currently doing her #PhD at the Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis at the Universitätsmedizin Mainz, the leading national competence center for thrombosis research and one of the main excellence pillars of curATime. We cordially congratulate Romina and thank her for these special efforts! Had an exciting discussion at the Chromodiversity Foundation's board meeting at Omni, San Francisco, CA. As a board member, I'm passionate about raising awareness and supporting those with unique chromosomal variations. Chromodiversity encompasses the natural variations in human sex chromosomes beyond the typical XX and XY configurations. Individuals with XXY, XXX, or XYY chromosomal patterns experience unique genetic expressions. For instance, did you know: XXY, known as Klinefelter syndrome, can result in physical and developmental differences. Approximately 1 in 500 males have an extra X chromosome (XXY). At the same time, XXX (Triple X syndrome). About 1 in 1,000 females have an extra X chromosome (XXX) And XYY (Jacobs syndrome) may also influence physical traits and learning abilities. Nearly 1 in 1,000 males have an extra Y chromosome (XYY). These variations affect millions globally and are often overlooked and misunderstood, leading to significant gaps in healthcare, education, and social inclusion. By supporting Chromodiversity, we advocate for better healthcare solutions, create educational resources, and foster an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Together, we can make a meaningful difference and build a future where everyone is celebrated for who they are. Children who have developmental special needs may not appropriately develop socially, intellectually, or even physically like their peers. Developmental special needs can occur due to genetic or environmental factors, or even both in some cases and can be spotted as early as infancy. Here are some of the most prevalent types of developmental special needs. #OAAdoptOH #InfantAdoption #SpecialNeedsAdoption #DevelopmentalDisabilityAwareness #SpecialNeedsAwareness

ℹ️Did you know? X chromosomes are longer than Y chromosomes. There are over 1500 genes on the X chromosome, which mainly characterise the heart, brain and immune system. (Regitz-Zagrosek & Schmid-Altringer, 2021, p. 17) 🧬The Y chromosome, on the other hand, is short and stubby. It only carries less than 100 genes focussing on sexual development and sexual function. (Regitz-Zagrosek & Schmid-Altringer, 2021, p. 17) 💡In conclusion, this means that it is perfectly possible to live a life without Y chromosomes - just look at half of the world's population. But not a single mammalian cell - male or female - could survive without an X chromosome. (Goldman, 2024) #gendermedicine #genderhealthgap #equality www.equal-care.org
