The Perfect Match - How Our 4D-Models Can Keep Up with Every Move! ♟️ 🚀 At last year's automatica, Afag showcased this impressive chess #robot, also beautifully demonstrating the real-time capability of their prebuilt 4D-models from the TwinStore. The setup featured a real chess robot built from Afag components and a 1:1 digital twin running simultaneously and perfectly in sync in the background. Every move made by the real system was precisely mirrored by the digital twin connected directly via a HIL #simulation on the real fieldbus. The digital twin of the chess robot is the result of a successfull joint project with ISG Industrielle Steuerungstechnik GmbH, CADENAS GmbH, and Afag | Emerson Discrete Automation. Utilizing already available 3D-CAD models from the CADENAS 3Dfindit catalogue, 4D-models were created. These 4D models then formed the basis for creating the #digitaltwin. With the help of the ISG-virtuos simulation software, the digital twin was finally set in motion. #Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM This is a volume rendering of vorticity around the Drivaer case. The simulation is one of those we submitted for the AutoCFD3 workshop. I am happy to participate in the technical focus groups on machine learning for this one! The group is full of experts across academia and industry and it's a fruitful collaboration so far. This is a transient scale-resolving simulation, using WMLES on a high-y mesh. The total mesh count was 128 M cells. 🚀 Excited to share one of the my most enjoyable projects: the Rotary Inverted Pendulum, also known as the Furuta Pendulum. It has been an incredible exercise in controlling nonlinear systems. Throughout this project, I gained valuable knowledge and experience in several key areas: 1️⃣ System Modeling: Utilizing the Lagrangian-Euler approach, we successfully implemented the mathematical model for the system and linearized it around the operating point. 2️⃣ Parameter Estimation: we delved deep into the parameter estimation toolbox provided by MathWorks, to estimate the missing parameters of the system. 3️⃣ State Feedback Controller Design & LQR: we designed a robust state feedback controller for the state-space system, leveraging the power of LQR to determine optimal feedback gain values. This ensures a robust response against various disturbances. 4️⃣ SimMechanics: we delved deep into SimMechanics toolbox, employing the previously designed controller to simulate the system in a 3D environment. 5️⃣ Simulink Hardware Support Packages: By utilizing hardware support packages for Arduino, we successfully implemented hardware-in-the-loop simulation. This involved reading real-time sensory data from the hardware connected to Arduino, calculating precise control actions, and sending them to the Arduino to drive the actuator.
