Vicor Set to Power Fleets of Self-Driving Long-Haul Trucks The high-density power modules produced by Vicor Corporation have been selected by Kodiak Robotics-Robotics to be built into ground-breaking autonomous driving hardware for use by the commercial haulage sector. The power modules were chosen because of their compact format, high efficiency levels and cost-effectiveness. As Jamie Hoffacker, VP of Hardware at Kodiak Robotics, explains; “There’s currently a 60,000 shortfall in truck drivers in the US and a further 25,000 shortfall in Canada.” That, along with the additional objective of eliminating truck-related fatalities (4,800 in North America annually), has given Kodiak’s engineers the motivation to develop this technology.
