The future of safe autonomous trucking is powered by Aeva 4D LiDAR! Futurride covered the debut of Daimler Truck North America's autonomous Freightliner eCascadia at last week’s ACT Expo / ACT News, highlighting that that the trucks will use Aeva's sensors and perception software "to detect objects faster, further away, and with higher accuracy.” Read more in the story below: https://lnkd.in/e7T8yy7f

Beep, Inc. Tests Software-Driven Self-Driving Vehicles in Florida The company has teamed with Oxa to deploy its self-driving software into Beep’s autonomous shuttles. Oxa driver uses fused sensor technology combining sensor data from cameras, lidar and radar to produce a more “comprehensive view of the world around it than vehicles that rely on cameras alone.” The software also uses AI to sense and predict environmental changes and learn from previous travels. Joe Moye, Beep CEO, “We’re delighted to partner with Oxa to bring new and enhanced electric, autonomous vehicles to market as we continue to expand our testing and our business across the United States." Gavin Jackson, Oxa’s CEO, “This marks a significant step forward for Oxa and the future of self-driving technology. Through partnering with Beep, we have the potential to drive several thousand vehicles over the coming years to make Oxa software the most widely utilized AV platform on the planet.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ebmF5HfA #selfdrivingvehicles #autonomousvehicles #futuremobility #automotivenews

Interesting article about the challenges for autonomous trucks in freeways. Highlighting some excerpts: "I would’ve bet that driverless trucks would be the first vehicle type to achieve a million-mile driverless deployment" "there are no driverless truck deployments" "all safety-critical decisions must be made by the onboard computer alone." "Radar can see farther than lidar. ... “Imaging” radars like the ZF device will do better than the radars on production vehicles. " "A combined camera radar system using machine learning probably has the best chance here" "passenger vehicles are generally modeled as a single rigid body, while a truck and its trailer can move separately. The planner and controller need to account for this" "I still believe AV developers will overcome these challenges eventually. Aurora, Kodiak, and Gatik have all promised some form of driverless deployment by the end of the year." https://lnkd.in/dKwMDSfG

Brilliant article by James Killick. I have a sub index just called “Map”. It’s my effort to track all the companies around the world producing usually digital maps. From this article I know I can now split it into “Map” and “HD Map”. I already know which ones go in the latter - all the European car and tyre companies that bought Here and the Japanese car companies behind Dynamic Map Planning, more on that here: https://lnkd.in/eH4UzdWs

Is preventative legislation for autonomous vehicles the key to creating a safe space for this new technology to flourish? Yes, I believe so. The prevention in question, as shown by China's latest guidelines, is not to restrict the use of these cars but to ensure their safe use, for all parties involved. If anything, it could accelerate their adoption. #Disruption #AutonomousVehicles #AVS

📰 Road Scene Understanding of Autonomous Vehicles 🔍 #road #scene understanding is crucial to the safe driving of #autonomousvehicles. Comprehensive road scene understanding requires a visual perception system to deal with a large number of tasks at the same time, which needs a perception model with a small size, fast speed, and high accuracy. 👨🎓 Jinghua Guo, Jingyao Wang, Huinian Wang, et al. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gfujd4cS Autonomous Vehicles Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles 👇 Figure 1. Although the idea is great & agreed this is a problem that you don't see really addressed when talking about autonomous vehicles. However we face a similar problem like with EV's, the infrastructure & affordability of the technology to make it actually successful isn't there. Just think how much it will cost to just cover the length this 21mi and who do you think will pay for that? Not the company that's for certain. Time will tell how this tech will pan out & likely is much further away from being a reality on a large scale than currently thought. https://lnkd.in/ge-PdUzg

Interesting piece by David Leggett at just-auto.com | The automotive industry news & information site! He discussed the history, progress, challenges, and critical technologies -- including RoboSense lidar -- of autonomous vehicles. Per David: "The promise of such vehicles is great – they could bring mobility to sections of the market that have never before had access, such as children, the disabled, or those otherwise unable to drive themselves. In addition, they could enable new business models...." RoboSense's technology is helping advance AVs and improve ADAS systems to realize this promise and drive safety and sustainability on roadways. Check out our new auto-grade M Platform products to see how our lidar is doing just that: https://lnkd.in/gjCW7ryq. https://lnkd.in/gMicXfDm
