In my nearly 20 years of work, only one company executed my on-boarding as a new employee correctly. Most organizations have a common issue - their data systems don’t know how to properly identify and honor transgender people. Many people have multiple data systems, including payroll, benefits, and email. On-boarding is critical to how new employees view and experience a culture of belonging. I knew very quickly if a workplace valued me and it was simple… 📈Will I see my deadname in data systems? 🏥Did HR have knowledge of their healthcare plan and its exclusions? 🧳Will I have access to gender expansive resources? 🏳️⚧️Will I be the only trans person in the employee ERGs?
