There are two key attributes that got me through Royal Marine training: Joining the Royal Marines is truly a life-changing experience, wouldn't you agree? I transitioned from being a McDonald's store manager to a potential Royal Marine. When I first arrived, it felt like being captured and the experience was overwhelming emotionally, mentally, and physically. I was fearful of the change and had to quickly adapt to new structures, routines, and systems. However, two key attributes, helped me push through until the very end of my training. I believe these two attributes can also assist you in your personal and professional growth for the better. Here are those two attributes. Desire was my main driving force. The fear of being blacked out of the troop picture when someone left ignited my desire to ensure I was one of the few who made it to the last day. This desire helped me overcome fear, being overwhelmed, and uncertainty of the process. Vision played a significant role as well. I shifted my focus away from a life that no longer served me and instead visualised my Royal Marine career progressing, meeting new people, and experiencing exciting adventures. Whenever things got tough, I would remind myself of this vision. Even now, as I embark on my entrepreneurship journey, these two attributes continue to play a huge role. They can also greatly contribute to your personal and professional development as you strive to reach your potential and make positive changes in your life. It's important to recognise that changing and evolving for the better is never easy. That's why building up key attributes like desire and vision can help you navigate the journey and see the bigger picture along the way. Hope this helps. I wanted to share a recent #gbr episode featuring The Prince & Princess of Wales and The Princess Royal chatting about rugby because as the conversation flows the language used to describe this sport, you begin to uncover striking similarities with businesses that are often operating either on a shoestring budget, propelled by private equity, SMEs, and or B Corps. These entities face a daily battleground, challenging multinational giants, but it is the team spirit and drive to press on no matter how hard or bad the situation, you will cross over the line and if your lucky bag a few "bonus points" along the way. 🤜#irfu ✅ Making the hard yards - equates to senior leadership making tough decisions to keep the business afloat, decisions that most colleagues may not even be aware of. ✅ Constant innovation & preparation -mirrors the diligence and agility required to bring products to market swiftly. ✅ Continuous improvement - underlines the need to refine and enhance operations continually. ✅ Fronting up - signifies unwavering belief in your brand and team. ✅ Digging deep - is akin to the final push as a critical milestone approaches. ✅ Team morale - boosting colleagues' spirits, no matter how dire the situation. ✅ Community - reflects the commitment to giving back and making a positive impact in your local area. ✅ Effective communication - MOST IMPORTANTLY is the thread that ties it all together, just as it does in rugby and business alike. These parallels show that in the world of business, like in rugby, it's the values, determination, and teamwork that often make the difference between success and struggle. So take a step back and take the time to genuinely understand and appreciate each of their colleagues to cultivate a robust organisational culture. In doing so, you'll pinpoint individuals: ✔️ Who consistently go above and beyond for the organization. ✔️ Possessing well-rounded characters, readily capable of boosting team morale when the situation demands it. ✔️ Who naturally embodies the leadership your team needs to thrive. Helping sportspeople retire and build a thriving, life-after-sports career, through mind coaching and skills transfer | Sport psychology | Performance coach | 1:1 |
Are you a Captain America, a Katniss Everdeen or a Forrest Gump? Actually, if you were any of them, you’d be leading a pretty great life when it comes to living in your purpose. ⭐️ Captain America put up a strong fight for the week. ⭐️ Katniss encouraged people to break through barriers to achieve what they wanted. ⭐️ And Forrest spent his life standing up for what is right. These are just fictional characters though. How does that relate to us? Well, we learn so much about the world from stories and learning about our Purpose is one of the greatest things we can do, in my opinion. And these stories show us what is possible. However, these heroes weren’t just out for themselves, everything they did was for the good of others. And how people went on to live their lives in a different way after being in contact with these heroes was the real success story. However, there are quite a few misconceptions about purpose. 🚫 Some believe it’s a goal we set ourselves. 🚫 Some think it’s a motivational statement we repeat to ourselves. 🚫 And some think it’s something we do. I believe our Purpose is much more deep rooted in us, it’s our reason for doing what we do. It’s something we believe in that is consistent through most of our life. It’s a core part of what makes us who we are. And from that, it’s very difficult to ‘do’ your Purpose. ❌ So, our job is not our purpose. ❌ Playing our sport is not our purpose. ❌ Being rich is not our purpose. But we can be the person who will achieve our Purpose. And we can grow and build and develop that person. And by being that person, the people around us will begin to feel and know what your purpose is. Our Purpose in our lives will remain pretty constant, but the activities we do to express it can change as we move through our lives. However, our Purpose will thread through all these activities and we will continue to inspire and affect the people around us and even around the world. 🌟So, do you know what your Purpose is? 🌟Have you thought about it and know what the consistent theme is running through your life? 🌟Do you know how you want to affect others during your life? If so, please share it in the comments, I’d love to hear about it. 💕 And keep making a difference. ✨ #purpose #lifespurpose #lifeaftersport #findmypurpose #livewithpurpose #eliteathlete #retiringathlete

Flight attendant training is not for the faint of heart. There are no books to study. There are no manuals to read ahead. The only experience I had in my life with a higher level of intensity was military training. There are several core skill areas people can actually prepare to help increase their odds of graduating. One of them takes months to prepare, depending on someone’s current job and their life skills. https://lnkd.in/g-q8cPmr

Operations and Aviation Professional | Airline Pilot | Air Force Officer | Combat Veteran | Kellogg MBA
I just completed United’s Captain course. Designed for all first-time captains at the airline, the course includes four full days of classes on leadership, communication, resource management and much more, interspersed with meetings with company leaders and managers in other work groups. This far exceeds the FAA-mandated requirement for professional development, and arguably is the best in the industry. My personal opinion was that this was absolutely excellent thoughout each class and meeting. There was no “kool-aid,” just genuine pride in our legacy and excitement for our future. Thank you CEO Scott Kirby, VP of Flight Ops Marc Champion, VP of Flight Ops Planning and Development Kirk Limacher, MD of Flight Training Miles Morgan and MD of Flight Standards Robert Thomas. It was particularly noteworthy that every single leader emphasized #safety as our priority. Being a United Captain brings many privileges, but also significant responsibility to be safe above all else. I remember when former SVP of Flight Ops Bryan Quigley told me of his plans to develop a professional development course similar to those he and I had experienced in our military careers. Now, every pilot enjoys that training, which includes a lot of the same excellent instruction that is in the Captain course. Fun fact, did you know United was the first airline to develop and implement #CRM? Every organization should be so fortunate as to have leaders who know what’s important (safety and people), how to develop employees, and how to set the foundation for a healthy culture to thrive. I’m proud to be part of United Airlines, and no, it’s not the “kool-aid.” The simple fact is that United is poised to be the biggest and best airline in the world. How cool is that? #airline #captain #leadership #unitednext #safe #caring #dependable #efficient
