Recently, I interviewed for a Product Manager position at FedEx, and while it wasn't the outcome I'd hoped for, it proved to be a valuable learning experience I want to share. As someone who thrives on understanding user needs and tailoring presentations accordingly, I typically rely on reading the room during interviews. However, this panel interview was challenging. The format was clear: a 10-minute presentation followed by Q&A and behavioral questions. Throughout the 45-minute interaction, I employed various communication tactics – humor, personal anecdotes, and storytelling – to gauge the panel's reactions. However, their expressions remained consistently neutral, making it difficult to assess their engagement. While the interview itself was a positive conversation, it highlighted my over-dependence on reading nonverbal cues. This experience underscores the importance of adaptability in communication styles. Have any of you encountered a similar situation in an interview? Freedom - the autonomy for them to make their own decisions. Fortune - the stability of the company and what’s in it for them financially. Family - make the change as easy as possible for their home situation. Fun - the work environment and the relationships the candidate will make.
