Yesterday Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) unveiled its 2024 Integrated System Plan, outlining pivotal opportunities ahead. Of significant note for job seekers, the ISP projects a demand for over 60,000 people in jobs across National Electricity Market regions over the next 20 years. This is an almost doubling from today's 32,000 workers. To meet these demands effectively, employers will need to be increasingly open to candidates from diverse backgrounds, including outside the traditional energy sector. By embracing and leveraging these transferable skills, it not only has the benefit of addressing workforce needs, but also ideally creates diversity of thought and fosters innovation within organisations. #engineeringcareers #energycareers #energytransition

Well this is exciting. Great to see the new Integrated System Plan from Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) with a firm focus on Consumer Energy Resources (home solar, batteries and EVs). These two key statements stand out for me: 1. "If consumer batteries are coordinated effectively, they have the potential to help lower costs for all consumers by offsetting the need for an additional $4.1 billion of grid-scale [storage] investment [, as well as help deliver more reliable and secure energy and contribute to lower emissions]." That's massive. But this requires close attention to home-owners and communities, which makes this second statement all the more important... 2. "As the energy transition brings both opportunities and challenges, continuing to listen and respond to the voices, needs and concerns of consumers and local communities will be essential." This guideline for the energy transition across the NEM is well-worth the quick watch. It's really heartening to see the vision for more jobs, increased resilience, and energy cost reductions.

Lots of great information here from AEMO… Some key points for the transition and batteries we note from the report are Renewable energy connected by transmission, firmed with storage and backed up by gas is the lowest cost way to supply electricity to homes and businesses through Australia’s energy transition. The shift to renewables is well underway, with renewables accounting for almost 40% of the total electricity delivered through the NEM in 2023. 90% coal retired by 2035 and all by 2040 Cost $120bn by 2050 Medium duration storage solutions are increasingly needed to support renewable energy growth. …..That is to dispatch electricity for four to 12 hours. This may be battery or pumped hydro (or other emerging technologies including flow batteries) which can shift large quantities of electricity to meet evening or morning peaks. (Energy Queensland and Stanwell Corporation Limited are investigating these batteries now with Vecco Group and Redflow). Increased electrification, including charging vehicles contributes to a nearly doubling of electricity demand by 2050, meaning scope for next generation mobility batteries to have a real impact is high such as our own manufacturing and development companies Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd and Li-S Energy Effective coordination of consumer batteries, can save around $4.1 billion in network development costs, so lets get to it with further incentives for home batteries and grow the for local assembly and battery management systems parts of the supply chain. "The entire system is growing, grids need to grow, and the associated investment and operational costs are growing. 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 the system is a must, but 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗱 is needed, especially in some geographies where RES feed-in into the grids is far greater than the expected demand. Regulatory approaches must be therefore adapted and tailor-made to the new challenges for capital and operational costs, as well as ensure returns that are in line with the financial environment." #FutureGridsEU: Event conclusions now live!   The “Future of our Grids: Accelerating the energy transition” event took place on 7 September 2023 in Brussels. The forum saw more than 200 industry leaders from European policymakers and national representatives to grid operators and sector experts meet to exchange on the opportunities and challenges in leveraging electricity grids to accelerate Europe's energy transition.   The Forum discussions focused on four key themes aimed at unlocking the potential of electricity grids to help reach Europe’s net-zero targets. Sector experts introduced the discussions and provided an introductory framework overview to lead to interactive discussions with the participants. The roundtable format allowed for many viewpoints to be shared reflecting different perspectives to common issues.   The key themes discussed were: ⚡Secure and mobilise the necessary financial capabilities ⚡How policy and regulation can facilitate and speed-up the grid investments ⚡The challenges of manufacturing capacities and skills to supply all the necessary grid components ⚡How to better include local communities and the public at large to increase support of grid infrastructure   The conclusions from the discussion are now available on the Forum's webpage, and should ultimately serve as a valuable reference for future policy actions.   The Forum was organised by ENTSO-E under the patronage of the EU Commission.
