#France seems to have avoided a far-right government, which is positive for offshore wind in the country France's parliamentary elections saw the left-coalition Nouveau Front Populaire emerging victorious with the largest number of seats, while Macron’s Ensemble coalition received the second most seats. The right-wing Rassemblement National (RN) became the third largest party, but failed to secure the desired absolute majority and is unlikely to be part of the new government coalition. This is good news for the French #offshorewind sector, as it seems to have voided the strong opposition from RN that promised a mortarium of #wind energy during the election campaign. However, the parliament’s new composition also creates uncertainty as negotiations to form a new government are expected to be difficult and could drag out. What the history-making elections of 2024 could mean for energy A new government in the UK, gridlock in France and the dramatic face-off in the US will have consequences for investment and the transition to clean fuels Summary: The 2024 elections in major countries, including the United Kingdom, France, South Africa, Mexico, and the United States, could significantly impact global energy policies and investment trajectories. In the UK, the Labour Party's victory signals a strong push towards a carbon-free power grid by 2030, with substantial implications for renewable energy developers, though oil and gas sectors may face challenges. France's political gridlock could stall critical energy projects, particularly in nuclear and renewables, creating uncertainties for the energy transition. South Africa's coalition government presents opportunities for clean energy developers but also raises concerns about the stability of energy policies. Mexico’s new administration, under Claudia Sheinbaum, is expected to continue state control over energy while cautiously encouraging private investment in renewables. Finally, the US elections will determine the future of tax incentives for clean energy, with a Trump victory likely favoring oil and gas, while a Democratic win would further the transition to low-emission technologies. #2024Elections #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #ClimatePolicy #GlobalEnergy https://lnkd.in/g5_2mX_T

A home based energy transition offers economic growth in the short, medium and long term for the UK.
Congratulations to Sir Keir Starmer on today’s General Election result. Now the important work of government begins. The Labour party has put economic growth at the heart of its plans, and our offshore energy sector can deliver just that. But we need the partnership between industry and government that our new Chancellor Rachel Reeves and the new Secretary of State for Energy Secretary and Net Zero have committed to. Today outside No.10 the Prime Minister said that in order to navigate the storms of history, depends “upon politicians, recognising when we must change course”. You can only choose the right course through engagement. Labour leaders have assured us that they are committed to continue dialogue when elected and to give industry a voice at the table at the earliest opportunity – it is our job to hold them to that promise. Important times ahead. Offshore Energies UK

NEO Energy, Serica Energy, and JOG are closely monitoring the upcoming elections, hoping for fiscal clarity to greenlight their ambitious plans. The elections could bring crucial fiscal policies that will determine the financial attractiveness and feasibility of the project. Despite the delay, work is moving forward with a second offshore survey starting soon and major contract awards which are expected in 2025. This project promises not only to bolster the UK's energy transition with low-carbon solutions but also to create highly skilled jobs. As voters across Europe cast their votes on the fourth and final day of the European Elections, I’m standing firmly with Jochen Eickholt and the members of Siemens Energy and Siemens Gamesa on the #WeStandForValues initiative, an alliance of over 30 German companies taking a stand for a united Europe. I'm inspired by our industry every day, and proud to have played my own small part in helping to realize the benefits we have already seen in Europe and across the globe through the energy transition, including local job creation, investments in local infrastructure, and many other community benefits. The wind industry increases Europe's energy security, helps protect our environment, and helps fight climate change. We can only continue to achieve our climate and energy goals when we bring our diverse perspectives together, share, collaborate, and remain united in Europe. We are always stronger together. The principles of togetherness, openness, diversity, and tolerance are essential for safeguarding the future - not just our democracies - but industries like wind that depend on stability and international cooperation. The wind industry has key policy priorities in 2024 that hinge on elected leaders who champion renewable energy and climate action. We need policymakers who will enact measures to accelerate the wind energy transition, from streamlining permitting to upgrading grid infrastructure. Voter choices will be pivotal in determining whether Europe meets its clean energy targets or loses ground to competing nations. The stakes could not be higher for the wind industry and the fight against climate change. I urge all my connections to exercise your democratic rights and #UseYourVote for candidates who will safeguard European values and the future of wind power on our continent. #TeamPurple #MoreWindNow #WindEnergy
