There are two main determinants as to how we live; 1. What do I want to achieve in life, in terms of creature comforts, moving on to material things and luxuries and 2. What am I willing to do to get those things. At the extremes you have the person who can live frugally maybe works when they have to and is content with their lot, to the other extreme where the person can always think what they’re going to spend their next bonus on and they’d sell their granny to make sure they beat their colleagues to the ‘pot of gold’. Most of us are in the middle. I have a decent life, I’m happy with a nice house (semi-detatched), a decent car and a couple of holidays a year. I don’t need Michelin star restaurants, I don’t need to travel first class. My approach was once I’d got what I wanted I eased up at work going part time then retiring, I didn’t grab the money just because it was there. I think a person’s desires and drive to reach those goals may just be the greatest determinant of who we’re friends with. If you’re like me and fairly easily pleased I don’t want to go out for a meal with someone who’s happy to pay double the price to have the food presented in an ‘artistic’ way for example. If I go to the football I want to be in with the proper fans, those chanting not in a box or having a restaurant meal first. Are you easily pleased or do you always strive for more/better? #ambition #satisfaction #luxuries
