As we approach the new year, co-pays are significantly higher as allowances are not yet met. This programs guarantee you will only pay $25 or less for up to 100 test strips. If passed this only a first step. Private practice physicians will still have to pay GET on all other medical services not paid by Medicare, Medicaid or Tri-care. Unlike, for example, any service provided by one of the many physicians now under the QHC umbrella. Still a very unfair playing field that ultimately reduces every Hawaii resident's access to necessary medical care. It also does not clarify where Medicare Advantage and Medicaid replacement plans fall. To be clear - NO insurance compensates or reimburses for GET. If a practice opts to add that fee to their bill (rather than just eating it, which most do) it is paid by the patient. Local Coverage Determination (LCD) edits are a type of claim edit that are used to determine whether or not a Medicare claim should be paid. LCD edits are created by Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs), which are private companies that contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to process Medicare claims. LCD edits are based on Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), which are policies that outline Medicare's coverage criteria for specific items and services. LCDs are developed by the MACs in consultation with CMS and other stakeholders. When a claim is submitted to Medicare, it is first processed through a series of edits. These edits are designed to identify claims that are potentially ineligible for payment. The May 9, 2022 Final Rule issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) goes into effect on January 1, 2024.
