🎮 What is Gaming for Good? It is one of the key trends of 2024 as more charities find creative and innovative ways to raise money and deliver their services. 🤓 So what is it? Gaming for Good is when individuals or teams raise money for charitable causes by playing video games. Normally, people will record themselves when they are playing and broadcast it live for others to watch online. During the broadcast, links can be provided for viewers to make donations. The proceeds from advertisement can also be donated to the charity. These initiatives also raise awareness of charitable causes and charities. Interested in learning more? Let us know below in the comments section! We can provide case studies and information on the best platforms to use and how to find the right video game player to help you! #gamingforgood #fundraising #innovation #videogames

A common misconception is that gaming is a 501(c)(3) “charitable” activity. There is nothing inherently charitable about gaming (e.g., lotteries, raffles, casino-type activities). According to the IRS, it's a recreational activity and a business with possible UBTI implications. Although a charity may use the proceeds from gaming to pay expenses associated with its charitable programs, gaming itself does not further any charitable purpose. So gaming cannot be a more than an insubstantial purpose of a 501(c)(3) organization. NOTE: Many states and localities (like Chicago) regulate certain types of gaming activities conducted by nonprofit corporations. Be sure to check these laws in advance of hosting a fundraising event.

Big thank you to Fiona Atkinson at F&P (Fundraising & Philanthropy) for giving me the opportunity to spotlight the opportunity gaming offers for the non-profit sector. The Interactive Games & Entertainment Association (IGEA) #AustPlays Report released last week demonstrates how 21 million Australians enjoy games and why they share a positive attitude towards games. Games already make the world a better place, but they have the power to make an even bigger, positive impact when gaming communities and charitable causes align. https://lnkd.in/gYWp2aHM

Blizzard Entertainment's Diablo 4 has just announced the 'Blood Harvest' to celebrate the launch of the 'Season of Blood' (season 2). How does it work? 🤔 🩸If you donate blood in the real world and can prove you did it, you'll unlock numerous in-game rewards. A fantastic initiative that gets the 'gamers for good' stamp of approval. 🚀Although it's not directly linked to any charity in particular, I think it's definitely something that other charities can learn from. Gaming is a great way for charities to gather further donations and raise awareness through the power of creators and partners, but there is always the obstacle of being too informative and less creative with their approach if they go it alone. Platforms like Tiltify gives audiences a massive array of interaction with their favourite creators, raising millions each year because it gives communities what they want, rather than just pushing for donations. What Diablo 4 has done here is push a strong message in their tone of voice, which speaks to their audiences and encourages them to take part. It's a smart way of getting into the minds of players without alienating them, or really even pushing them to 'buy' anything! The Diablo 4 community has already reached 40% of the total donation goal, do you think they'll reach 100% in time? #gamesindustry #marketing #influencermarketing https://lnkd.in/d_Z_DF7e
