Day 1 in #Tanzania with #ActionAidHellas: A Journey of Solidarity and Connection! Our first day has been a remarkable experience filled with warmth, culture, joy, and meaningful connections - a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. 🔴A Warm Welcome: We were greeted with open arms and heartfelt smiles by the local people. The hospitality and kindness we received were truly touching, setting the tone for an unforgettable trip. 🔴Embracing Culture and Traditions: We witnessed and engaged with the rich cultural traditions of the local communities. This connection to their heritage is a testament to their enduring spirit and identity. 🔴Resilience and Happiness: Despite the challenges, the spirit of resilience and happiness shines brightly. The community’s strength and positivity are truly inspiring and remind us of the power of perseverance. 🔴Togetherness through Play: There’s nothing quite like the joy of playing together. Football and 'Ring a Ring o' Roses' brought us all closer, transcending language and cultural barriers, and creating bonds that will last a lifetime. 🔴Let the Child Sponsors Meet the Children and Families: One of the most profound moments was meeting the children and families we support through the child sponsorship programme. Seeing the impact of our efforts firsthand was incredibly rewarding and heartwarming. This journey is more than just a trip; it’s a testament to the power of solidarity, showing us that together, we can make a real difference. It couldn't have happened without the support of Actionaid Tanzania. #SolidarityInAction #TanzaniaTrip

Three days ago we had a meeting with the Volunteers of the Africa SME Assembly in preparation for the event coming up on 29th and 30th of March 2024. One striking thing that resonates so well with me was that all three speakers during this session, the likes of Tanya Kabuya Treasure Enyinnaya David (TED)Monalisa A. stressed on the need for one to have a mindset of volunteering. The speakers did not fail to mention the fact that volunteering had a big hand in their breakthrough to where they are now, and not only did they choose to volunteer, but they also chose to stand out and become visible in the volunteering process, hence enabling whoever was their principal at the time to notice them and leverage on their sets of abilities. *** I remember one certain time, I had cold mailed someone I always loved to work with on how I could help him do this and that, and after giving me a trial, he ended up giving me a contract that's worth triple of what I had to offer to help him do. This has not just been a one-off thing; it has been re-occurring. One of the fastest ways to rise to the top in any giving field is volunteering, No jokes at all.!! And that's why we are calling on volunteers, partners and sponsors to who believe in the future and abilities of Africa to join us as we embark on this journey of strengthening the SMEs in Africa. Truly, SMEs are the backbones of any economic infrastructure of any country and continent. As we prepare for today’s webinar, Exploring African Giving Practices, I am particularly excited to share about a tradition very dear to me: Omugwo. This Nigerian practice of postpartum care represents the essence of communal support and the transfer of generational wisdom, values that have changed the lives of countless others in Africa. Omugwo is not just postpartum care but a profound demonstration of the African spirit of mutual support, solidarity, and shared wisdom. Why This Matters: Cultural Significance: Omugwo embodies the African values of solidarity and mutual support, showing how these principles continue to thrive in modern times. A Reflection of Philanthropy: By fostering communal bonds and helping families in need, Omugwo reflects the broader African tradition of giving, which has deep roots in our societies. Exploring More: At today's webinar, we'll explore how African giving practices like Omugwo shape global philanthropy, contribute to our understanding of generosity, and offer insights into movement-building in the digital age. Event Details: Date: Today, May 2nd, 2024 Time: 9 am EST | 1 pm GMT | 2 pm WAT | 3 pm CAT | 4 pm EAT Venue: Zoom Registration: Join us here: bit.ly/AfricaTrad I look forward to seeing you there as we delve explore #AfricanGiving and how they shape our world! . . . #AfricanGiving #AfricanGivingPractices #GivingPractices #GivingTraditions #AfricanGivingTraditions #AfricanPhilanthropy #GivingTuesday #GivingTuesdayAfrica #TrustAfrica

The Inaugural Africa Fiscal Hosting Convention 🗓️Dar es Salaam May 9 & 10, 2024. CivSource South Africa convened the inaugural Africa Fiscal Hosting Convention, leading pioneering research on fiscal hosting in Africa. A diverse attendance from both fiscal hosting practitioners, beneficiaries, and donor organisations from all over the continent met at Dar es Salaam’s Delta Marriott hotel for a two-day convention. There was a palpable eagerness to discuss the challenges and solutions in understanding the future of fiscal hosting on the continent, evidenced by the robust discussions. These challenges faced by fiscal hosts range from determining just pay structures of the true cost of these services, bearing the brunt of the risk fiscal hosts often absorb from donor terms and conditions, while finding a place in the shrinking donor space, compliance, and taxation regulatory requirements as well as the complexities of cross border service delivery. With the call to co-create a common space of learning towards the opportunity to forge the shaping of an Africa-led community of practice that supports fiscal hosting services to strengthens service delivery models, this platform will go a long way in bolstering civil society to fulfil its mandate in advancing social justice across the African continent. hashtag #AfricaFiscalHosting2024 hashtag #ShapingTheFuture _ CivSource Africa Jacqueline Asiimwe Barbara Sematimba Evans Okinyi Foundation for Civil Society (FCS) Kenya Community Development Foundation East Africa Philanthropy Network-EAPN African Youth Philanthropy Network (AYPN) STAR-Ghana Foundation TILITONSE FOUNDATION Southern Africa Trust Uganda National NGO Forum David Barnard

Civil society is the beating heart of progress, a vital force that amplifies the voices of marginalized and vulnerable communities among many other things. Today is an exciting day for me as I participate in the Civil Society in Uganda Convention, joining hands with dedicated non-state actors who share a common passion for making a positive change. At the The Hummingbird Foundation, we believe in the power of collaboration. Our mission has always been about more than just one organization; it's about creating a collective impact that transcends boundaries. This convention serves as a significant milestone for us as it offers an invaluable opportunity to forge strong partnerships with key stakeholders who share our vision. Our focus, here, is on addressing critical issues, such as healthcare disparities and socio-economic barriers to human development. These challenges often hit hardest in rural and underprivileged communities and among people with disabilities. By working together, we can combine our strengths, knowledge, and resources to design innovative solutions and create a lasting impact on the lives of those who need it most. The path ahead is not without challenges, but it's the collective will, commitment, and ideas that will lead to transformative change. Through collaboration and a shared dedication to improving lives, we can bring about real, sustainable progress. The Hummingbird Foundation is excited to embark on this journey, and I look forward to the inspiring conversations and partnerships that will emerge from this convention. Let's turn these discussions into actionable initiatives and build a better future together.
