https://lnkd.in/gRCr4pWx For all my boating friends and peers-We all know how important it is to pay attention to tides when boating. The recent & extreme King Tides require extra caution and I have put together a few tips I have learned over the years. Please feel free to add your own tips, stories & experiences. 1. Understand the Tides: Familiarize yourself with local tide charts to plan accordingly- . https://lnkd.in/gfXFT3bW 2. Prioritize Safety: Ensure your boat is in solid condition, all safety gear and electronics are intact. If your boats been in storage, don’t make your first of the season, shake down during extreme conditions. 3. it’s always a good idea to file a float plan or the bare minimum. Let someone on shore know where you’re headed, when you’re due and who you have on board. Typically in our case, this would be a neighbor, or the Dog sitter. 😊 we always tell them if they don’t hear from us by a certain time to be prepared to call the coast guard if we’re headed offshore. 4. Monitor Weather: Stay updated on forecasts and be prepared for sudden changes. Check your NOAA forecast before and during your outing. You don’t want to be caught off guard with unpredicted incoming weather while navigating high tides, this is a bad combo! 5. Watch out for Hazards: keep an eye out for obstructions. The high tide will grab all kinds of debris off the coastline that will be floating around. Extra wind chop on top of high surf and tides make these things extra tough to spot so It’s a good idea to assign an observer to help keep an eye out for you. 6. Extra provisions are a must! Extra everything- water, food, sunscreen, clothing etc. The ocean is unpredictable and it’s possible that you could be out there longer than expected. When this happens, be sure that you keep your onshore contact updated with your ETA. I always keep my solar powered phone charger and an extra handheld gps. That’s it from Capt. Vic 😊⚓️🚤 #BoatingSafety #HighTides #SafeBoating #qualifiedcaptain #freedomboatclub
