Community Land Trust is counting down to #WorldCLTDay 2024 on May 17 &18! Follow @CLTrust on Twitter/X this week as we celebrate some of the projects we’ve been championing over the past 12 months with peers worldwide in celebration of affordable housing, land justice and community empowerment. We not only manage over 3500 co-op and non-profit homes and developments in communities across BC but are also a major driver of growth in the non-market and community housing sector. CLT has 1500 new housing co-ops in the pipeline across the Lower Mainland and in North Cowichan. A leader in housing co-ops built for the urban environment, we combine the benefits of co-op living with professional development and property management. It’s all about being caretakers and stewards of public land, ensuring it stays in community hands and ultimately creating communities that people are proud to call home. https://lnkd.in/gB4E5-Q2

Trust us when we say redevelopment will happen in Detroit, it will happen! Today, City Council unanimously approved the final plans for Hotel Water Square, a new high-rise with 600 hotel rooms on the former footprint of the Joe Louis Arena. The developers, working with residents, have committed to fighting homelessness, domestic violence and trafficking, while investing heavily in opportunities for youth. The 25-story skyscraper will soon begin construction, becoming next-door neighbors with the already completed Residences at Water Square. Another cool hotel feature will be the pedestrian bridge, that when completed, will span over 2nd Avenue and provide a direct connection to Huntington Place Convention Center. The Hotel at Water Square NAC and the Developer agreed to specific and significant agreements for each of the identified areas of project impact. We are proud that our engagement in the CBO process has yielded significant commitments from Sterling Group to the community including multi-year donations totaling $400,000 to local non-profits addressing homelessness, domestic violence, trafficking, youth internships, and community initiatives; $250,000 in post-secondary scholarships for local students; and a $500,000 contribution towards improvements to the West Riverfront People Mover Station. These commitments along with many others represented in the Tier 1 Community Benefits Agreement include provisions that we are confident will result in beneficial outcomes for the Impact Area and throughout the larger community.#DetroitistheFuture 💫

Please consider making a donation to Purses with a Purpose Boise. Purses with a Purpose is a heartfelt endeavor that was born out of a deep-seated desire to make a profound impact in the lives of women and teens within the Treasure Valley who find themselves unable to afford even the most basic of necessities. Their mission is driven by compassion and a burning determination to bring about positive change in our community. Month after month, they pour their hearts and souls into assembling approximately 400 purses, each carefully filled with essential supplies. These purses serve as more than just bags of items; they are beacons of hope, symbols of solidarity, and tangible reminders that there are brighter days ahead. However, they cannot continue this journey without your support. Each purse we assemble costs approximately $25 to fill with supplies for one month. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, plays a pivotal role in our ability to extend a lifeline to those in need. By donating to Purses with a Purpose, you become an integral part of this incredible journey of transformation and hope. Your involvement not only provides material support but also brings warmth and reassurance to those who have been struggling in the shadows. Your support is not just a donation; it's a lifeline, a gesture of kindness, and a beacon of light that shines through the darkest of times. Together, we can fill more purses, but more importantly, we can fill more lives with love, hope, and the promise of better days ahead. Learn more and donate here: https://lnkd.in/g-Dcqzm9 Tip

Never be ashamed of exhibiting your oddball talents; they will become an asset when you least expect it! Whenever I start feeling down, I like to put myself in situations where I can help others. This week, I stepped into a role outside of my norm of healthcare and more into that of disaster relief. Part of the crisis is handling donations that have flooded in and disbursing them efficiently and effectively. Within a couple of hours of being at the task of organizing what could at best be described as a dump zone, my partner and I came up with a very viable solution which could be executed and replicated at zero cost in materials or personnel. After several more hours of literally sweating through implementation, we had finessed the system. At the end of the shift, we did the knowledge/process transfer. Looking forward to seeing this through. Never thought that my oddball talent of extreme closet organization on a non-existent budget and space, would ever be transferable anywhere outside of my personal space! By now knowing what is on hand, we can ask for more targeted donations to fill the voids thus being able to service the community more efficiently and effectively.

Join us for an inspiring evening with The Developers Club to network with property developers, engage in thought-provoking panel discussions, and make a difference in the lives of young adults at risk of long-term homelessness. Kim Opszala from Komodo Properties is the Vice-Chair of The Developers Club Foundation, and in her words: "Having been a trustee of various charities for the past seven years, giving back has always been important. The aim of the foundation, to support housing and professional development of young adults at risk of youth homelessness, is a cause that resonates with me as a property developer. I am delighted to use my trustee experience and legal skills to take on the role of vice chair and make a difference in young people's lives." The Developers Club Foundation is a non-profit organisation that believes in creating a brighter future for young adults vulnerable to long-term youth homelessness. By providing them with a solid foundation during this crucial time in their journey towards independence, we have the opportunity to change their lives for the better - and for generations to come.
