Ahhhh....I see what you did there. *delete* Recognition is a powerful motivator, and can be used to bring out the best in people around you. However, when recognition is insincere or comes with strings attached, you'll lose any temporary gains it created. Furthermore, you'll erode trust, damaging the relationship and driving performance far below the level it was at when you started. So, make time and be intentional about recognizing people for all the great work they do. However, check your motives and make sure you're not trying to slip in a hidden agenda, or it will come back to bite you.
