CALL FOR PARTICIPATION IN OUR ONLINE SURVEY ON INTERSECTIONAL IDENTITIES AND ISSUES! SWAN, ECOM, EHRA, and EWNA are undertaking a regional consultation to collect and assess existing experiences in the ways that intersecting identities – including LGBT, drug users, sex workers, and those living with HIV, might affect peoples’ lives, access to health services, and agency in light of the structural inequalities, social injustice, violence, stigma and discrimination. If you live in the countries of Central & Eastern Europe and Central Asia and you identify as a person with intersectional identities, please fill in the questionnaire. It is anonymous, confidential and easy to navigate. The questionnaire is available in 3 languages: English, Russian and Ukrainian. LGBT healthcare facts: LGBT elders are twice as likely to live alone and be single, and 3-4 times less likely to have children. LGBT elders suffer significant health disparities, including high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, etc. Social isolation affects many LGBT elders as they deal with stigma and discrimination in their daily lives and in our country's aging system. In a recent survey, only 22% of respondents felt they could be open about their LGBT identities with facility staff. 89% predicted that staff would discriminate based on their sexual orientations and/or gender identities, and 43% reported instances of mistreatment. I help you transform medical knowledge into clear and useful content for everyone | 👨🏾🔬 Medical Scientific Writer
🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ This weekend, we celebrated the LGBT Pride March, and I want to take this opportunity to share a project I developed during the Midjourney course on image generation with #AI, focusing on the situation of healthcare providers in Mexico. 📈 Although the data from the National Institute of Public Health on stigma and discrimination related to HIV is from 2006, it was surprising and concerning to me. 🕵🏾♂️ To achieve this, I created a script highlighting the key messages, designed specific images using Midjourney prompts, and assembled everything in Adobe InDesign. 👀 You can see the full document here: #PharmaceuticalMarketing #MedicalWriting #EvidenceBasedMedicine #ScienceAndHealth #ScientificCommunication #MedicalLiaison #PublicHealth #HealthInnovation #Midjourney #AI #PrideLGBT #MedicalResearch

Preventive and Sexual Health in LGBTQ Older Adults. Karris, M. Y., Lau, M., & Blumenthal, J. (2024). Clinics in geriatric medicine, 40(2), 223–237. https://lnkd.in/diHUAwxy Abstract Sexual health is an important but often overlooked health concern of LGBTQ older adults. Multiple factors influence sexual health including intersecting identities; adverse life events; coping mechanisms; and psychological, social, and physical health domains. Thus, the use of a culturally competent and comprehensive person-centered approach to sexual health is warranted. In this review, we discuss approaches to engaging LGBTQ older adults to ensure they are able to achieve their sexual health priorities and prevent new human immunodeficiency virus infections. We also discuss doxycycline postexposure prophylaxis to prevent other sexually transmitted infections and the impact of #chemsex. Keywords: #HIV #PrEP; Intersectionality; #LGBTQ #older adult; #STI prevention; Sexual health screening.

Access to comprehensive reproductive and sexual health care is a critical component of public health. Unfortunately, this access has come under attack in recent years, with various barriers such as limited access to affordable services, lack of education and awareness, stigmatization, and discriminatory policies. These barriers disproportionately affect marginalized communities, including low-income individuals, people of color, and LGBTQ individuals. To ensure that everyone has equal opportunities to maintain their reproductive and sexual health, we must work towards making reproductive care and screening for cancers and STIs common and accessible. This means advocating for policies that protect reproductive rights, support affordable and comprehensive healthcare services, and promote inclusive and culturally sensitive care. By raising awareness about the importance of reproductive and sexual health, we can break down the stigma surrounding these topics and encourage open conversations. Education plays a pivotal role in empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their reproductive health, seeking necessary screenings, and accessing appropriate care. Furthermore, we need to support organizations and initiatives that strive to provide comprehensive reproductive and sexual health services to underserved communities. This includes supporting clinics, community health centers, and organizations that prioritize accessible care and address the unique needs of different populations. National Public Health Week 2024, April 1-7, provides us one opportunity to spread this message ... together. Collectively, we can amplify our voices and advocate for reproductive and sexual health as a priority. How will you speak out? Let's work towards a future where reproductive care and screenings are common, accessible, and free from barriers for all individuals! For more, see https://lnkd.in/d-GPQwBE.
