As reported by the Center for Disease Control (2020), #suicide is the second leading cause of death among high school-aged youths, only followed by unintentional injuries. Research indicates that comprehensive #SuicidePrevention can successfully reduce the prevalence of suicidal ideation and behaviors by implementing programs, practices, and policies that prevent suicide (such as family programs) and supporting persons currently at risk (through psychotherapy) (CDC, 2021). At #YPM, we focus on #RiskPrevention in order to help young people build self awareness, skills to manage their emotions, and overall resilience. We also support parents in learning how to recognize when their child might be #SufferingInSilence. If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, please contact the International Association for Suicide Prevention to find your local hotline or contact emergency services in your area.
