The mural is being created by artist Aaliyah Lachel’e Merrick and her team, and is the third installment of a larger community art initiative supporting local artists and beautifying communities where ACCESS health centers are located. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time to reflect upon the painful history of residential schools. We remember those who never returned home and also honour the survivors, their families, and communities. This day serves as a reminder of the ongoing journey towards healing and understanding. It's a moment to come together, listen, learn, and acknowledge the truth, with the hope of building a more inclusive and compassionate future. Let us embrace this day with open hearts and minds, as we strive for reconciliation and justice for all. Here are a few ways you can get involved: 🧡 Wear Orange - One of the most visible ways to show support. Be sure to read the story of Phyllis (Jack) Webstad. 🧡 Participate in an Event - Research what’s happening in your area and immerse yourself in opportunities to form community connection. 🧡 Educate Yourself – Take some time to learn, reflect and share with family, friends and children. 🧡 Support Arts & Media - Support the work of Indigenous artisans, authors and film makers. 🧡 Be Considerate - Today and every day, be kind and show consideration to Indigenous communities who are hurting as they reflect on their history.

It's incumbent upon every member of society to extend a helping hand to the elderly and the helpless. These individuals have contributed to our communities and societies throughout their lives, and it's only fitting that we reciprocate their efforts by providing support and assistance when they need it most. Whether it's helping with daily tasks, offering companionship, or simply lending a listening ear, our gestures of kindness can make a world of difference in their lives. By assisting the elderly and the helpless, we not only demonstrate compassion but also foster a sense of unity and interconnectedness within our communities. It's through these acts of kindness and empathy that we strengthen the fabric of society, creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. Moreover, by acknowledging the value and dignity of every individual, regardless of age or ability, we cultivate a culture of respect and empathy that benefits us all. In the end, lending a helping hand to the old and helpless isn't just a moral obligation—it's a reflection of our shared humanity. By prioritizing the well-being of those who are most vulnerable, we cultivate a more compassionate and caring society for generations to come. So let's commit ourselves to supporting the elderly and the helpless, enriching not only their lives but also our own in the process.

The Kettering Foundation is integrating the arts into all areas of our work because of their capacity to affirm and advance democratic values. We are pleased the federal government shares that commitment. The National Endowment for the Arts and the White House Domestic Policy Council recently convened Healing, Bridging, Thriving: A Summit on Arts and Culture in Our Communities, which provides many examples of the ways in which the arts are “essential to the well-being, health, vitality, and democracy of our Nation.” https://lnkd.in/giVi4xVZ
The arts span every facet of life – the White House just hosted a summit about it

Did you know that Mt. Olympus is Greece’s first and largest national park? And did you know that the wildfire that devastated the Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli Forest National Park in Greece this past August was the most severe and devastating fire disaster ever recorded in the European Union? The risk of wildfire disaster and the occurrence of megafires in Greece are increasing. For #GivingTuesday, if you want to give to help reduce wildfire disaster risk in Greece, here is a great organization and project. The Ecogenia #PathToOlympus campaign will directly support Ecogenia’s work in 2024, when they’ll launch their first disaster management program in the Mt. Olympus area, combining ecotourism impact with wildfire prevention and community preparedness. This project will also contribute to positive impact beyond Mt. Olympus and in the long-term for Greece, because Ecogenia is working to become a national youth climate corps, where thousands of young Greeks are empowered to contribute to climate action through civic service in local communities, paid training opportunities, and hands-on introductions to potential career paths. To make a donation and support this vital cause, please visit https://lnkd.in/gNQWjY6U (There are options for U.S.-based donors to make tax-deductible contributions)
