This women's day I had the privelege of hosting and moderating a very important panel discusson at Biocon Research Centre of Biocon Biologics on a very relevant topic of how investing in women can pave the way for a progressive and prosperous world, where every voice is valued, and every opportunity is accessible. On my panel were Rhonda Duffy, COO, BBL, KavitaRao Project Management Lead, Karthik SM Head of Talent Aquisition and management and Tharun Bhaviri Our discussion revolved around the importance of Investing in Women, Coaching them for leadership roles and Setting them up for success to accelerate progress of the business, nation, and society at large. 1. I think we all agree, that investing in women is not only the right thing to do, but also the smart thing to do. Studies have shown that empowering women and girls can have positive ripple effects across all sectors of the society, from improving health and education outcomes, to boosting economic growth and productivity, to enhancing peace and security. 2. Investing in women is also essential for achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which envisions a world where no one is left behind. 3. And I believe, Men in our society have a very important role to play, in inspiring inclusiveness and sharing the responsibility of creating an enabling ecosystem where women thrive and participate in the overall economic agenda. Studies have shown that increasing women's participation in the workforce can lead to significant economic growth. Some Stats: a. GLOBAL: According to the World Economic Forum, closing the gender gap in economic participation could add almost $28 trillion dollars to the global GDP, by 2025. b.INDIA: We can achieve a GDP growth of over 8% by ensuring that women account for more than half of the new workforce set to be created by 2030. Biocon Biologics is Committed to enable People Equity At Biocon , we firmly believe in creating an inclusive and supportive work culture where all employees irrespective of their gender feel valued and empowered. Lets inspire inclusion, embrace diversity of all kinds, thoughts, ideas, culture, food, language, gender, backgrounds etc. Some glimpses here. https://lnkd.in/gwsqgqBZ #inclusion #diversity #women #womeninbusiness #womenatwork #economicdevelopment #people #equity

Women in Life Science Denmark is marking International Day of Women & Girls in Science Feb 11th by participating in a podcast from Optimum Strategic Communications on breaking barriers and finding your inner stone age hunter! We have always been teached, that in the stone age, which constitutes 90% of human kind’s time on earth, the man went out hunting – killing the big animals - and the woman gathered berries and roots and watched the offspring in the camp. This image has shaped the general perception of male and female basic instincts. The man is the hunter and the woman is the gatherer. HOWEVER IT TURNS OUT NOT TO BE TRUE – let’s have a look at the facts: A wide range of scientific studies world-wide now show that women in the stone age were also hunters. A specific study on 63 hunter-gatherer societies from North- and South America, Africa, Asia and Oceania showed that in 80% of the societies, women were hunting as a normal routine, handling large weapons and killing big animals. The 20th century anthropologists, ethnographers and archaeologists have simply suppressed a traditional gender perspective on the hunter-gatherer societies, assuming that hunter graves contained male skeletons - but it has turned out that up to 1/3 of the skeletons were women! This challenges the general perception of basic male and female instincts and the distinct gender roles that we have been teached during our upbringing. THE TRUTH IS THAT WOMEN HAVE BEEN HUNTERS ALL ALONG! WE HAVE THE POWER WE HAVE THE COURAGE and WE HAVE THE INSTINCTS TO GO OUT IN THE FIELD AND WIN THE BATTLE So dear women and girls – we just want to encourage you to find your inner stone age hunter – and go out there and win the battle, get the job or education that you want or fight for achieving the goals that you have set in the job or study that you already have. A recent study, "How Women Can Build High-Status Networks," published on HBR.org (March 20, 2024), by Carla Rua-Gomez, Gianluca Carnabuci, and Martin Goossen, reveals insightful strategies for women in the pharmaceutical industry to navigate and overcome the unique challenges they face in building high-status professional networks. Based on data from 42 global pharmaceutical companies over 25 years, here are the key takeaways: Face Time with Leaders: The study reveals that direct interactions with senior leaders are less beneficial for women in pharma compared to men, due to entrenched gender biases in perceptions of competence. Women are 40% less likely to form a tie with a leader post face-to-face meetings than their male peers. Leveraging Third-party Ties: Women in the pharmaceutical sector excel at forming high-status connections through third-party introductions. These endorsements significantly enhance their visibility and credibility within the organization. Strategically Designed Network Sponsor Programs: Highlighting the efficacy of network sponsor programs tailored for the pharmaceutical industry, the research emphasizes the importance of choosing sponsors with intermediate status, prioritizing long-tenured female sponsors, and leveraging the "female triplet" effect to maximize career advancement opportunities. Local Contact with Global Reach: Establishing close connections with local sponsors possessing a global network is especially beneficial for women in pharma, facilitating access to wider, high-status networks and mitigating direct interaction gaps. Let's leverage these insights to foster a more inclusive and supportive professional landscape for women in the pharmaceutical industry and beyond. #WomenInPharma #ProfessionalNetworking #GenderEquality #HBR

Heidi Whitman from KannaSwiss in her talk "The Role of Women in the Cannabis Industry" at the CannabisHub #Cdays, recounts the challenges she faced in the early days of her career in an industry predominantly male-dominated. She highlights how mothers seeking therapeutic alternatives for their children have been instrumental in supporting and uplifting each other. The roles of women in the industry profoundly impact consumer trends. As the majority of the population, they also represent the largest share of the consumer market. Companies led by women not only cultivate diversity but also instill confidence and enhance community diversity. The cannabis industry is witnessing a significant shift, thanks to the invaluable contributions of women. Heidi Whitman's insights at the CannabisHub's #Cdays shed light on the pivotal role women play in shaping consumer trends and driving innovation. One of those celebrations where I feel personally deeply involved and recognise myself as one of these women. My “girl” period started in the lab 🧪 of pharmaceutical technology in the Antwerp University, with 14h per day nano-particles experiments - over and over, until the successful launch of drug, which even today I can find on the shelves of the pharmacies in Europe. Than I switched to other part of the pharmaceutical science - Social Pharmacy, Rx - to - OTC switches, Pharmaceutical Regulation, Pharmacovigilance, Pharmacoepidemiology…. Science is a broad spectrum of activities and is not saved excusively and only to the activities in the laboratory🧬 Big part of the scientific acievements are beased on coutless hours theoretical research, through deep literature screening or experimental models in pure non-lab eviromment. Being part of the Consumer Healthcare business in the last years, I witness that apart of the science focused on the finding of these new magic formulas for treatment of still incurable diseases 🦠, a massive part of the science is focused to secure in the safest way and empower millions, even billions of consumers out there to navigate their own health in the best way. The miracles of science are with and around us every day! #WomenInSTEM #IDWGS #Sanofi #SanofiConsumerHealthcare #SanofiCHC

⭐⭐CONNECTORx CORNERx⭐⭐ PHARMACY STRATEGY: Embrace Equity This is the theme of this year's International Women's Day (IWD) and should be part of your organization strategic plan to embrace. Equity and equality are inherently different concepts. "The IWD 2023 #EmbraceEquity campaign theme seeks to get the world talking about why "equal opportunities are no longer enough" - and can in fact be exclusionary, rather than inclusive." Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome. "People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action." Check out the links below to see useful images that visually show the difference between equity equality and equity. A quote that brings it home for me is "Equality is giving everyone a shoe. Equity is giving everyone a shoe that fits." Read More: International Women's Day Theme & Equality versus Equity What are you doing in your organization to support equity?
