Even though marriage equality and other protections for this community have come a long way, it may still be more complicated for same-sex couples and others in non-traditional relationships to make sure their interests are protected. The reason estate planning is so vital is that it ensures that your wishes are honored and your loved ones’ well-being is considered through the protection and distribution of your assets after death. LGBTQ people are more likely than others to feel isolated or lonely. Nationally, one in three LGBTQ young people experience mental health difficulties, compared to one in eight in the general population. One in seven LGBTQ people avoid treatment for fear of discrimination. There are three key things we can all do to support our LGBTQ community. These are to keep questioning our assumptions, actively support their visibility and promote their representation across all areas. #LBGT #publichealth

June is Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 For the month of June, we'll have some weekly LGBTQ Housing facts for you. The LGBTQ community tends to be significantly younger than the non-LGBTQ population. Specifically, 52% of individuals identifying as LGBTQ are under 35 years old, while only 23% of those identifying as straight and cisgender fall into the same age group. These age disparities account for roughly half of the difference in homeownership rates between LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ individuals, as younger people are generally less likely to own homes compared to older individuals.

LGBTQ seniors often face unique challenges related to healthcare, housing, and social support. Creating inclusive environments and tailored services for LGBTQ elders is essential for addressing their specific needs and ensuring equitable access to care and support. Today, The Trevor Project released our inaugural 2024 Mexico National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ Young People, which amplifies the experiences of 10,635 LGBTQ young people in Mexico between the ages of 13 and 24. The results of the survey reveal an alarming truth: over 50% of LGBTQ youth have considered suicide in the past year. This painful reality disproportionately affects  2 out of 3  #transgender and #nonbinary young people between ages 13-17, a crucial stage of life marked by identity exploration and acceptance. By addressing these factors properly, we can reduce stress and protect LGBTQ youth from future harm. It's time for all of us to take concrete actions and provide the necessary support to ensure the health and well-being of all LGBTQ youth in Mexico.
