In behavioral healthcare, it’s important to think of the unique needs of Veterans, one of our country’s most vulnerable populations. Today, on the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, we want to emphasize how important it is for Veterans to have access to clinically excellent behavioral healthcare services. Our Military & Family Support team supports and advocates for thousands of Veterans by connecting them with specialized, high-quality care. This recent article from Behavioral Health Business features Meridith Johnson, MBA, a member of that team: https://lnkd.in/et8j5BjM

Addressing the Critical Gap in Veteran Healthcare As we strive to support our military combat veterans facing a myriad of battlefield illnesses, it is evident that traditional evidence-based practices alone are inadequate. The urgent need for specialized care demands a unique approach - one that taps into the expertise and understanding of licensed mental health professional who are also veterans. These brave individuals bring a profound understanding of the challenges faced by our combat veterans, having walked in their shoes and experienced the invisible wounds of war firsthand. By empowering licensed mental health professional veterans to lead the way, we can develop targeted strategies and innovative programs that resonate with those who are in dire need of support. It is unacceptable that our veterans are dying at an alarming rate, with gaps in care leaving many without the critical assistance they deserve. By harnessing the skills and insights of those who have served, we can bridge this divide and ensure that no veteran is left behind. Join me in advocating for the empowerment of licensed mental health professional veterans in shaping the future of veteran healthcare. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and honor the sacrifice of those who have served our nation. #VeteranHealthcare #MentalHealthSupport #EmpowerVeterans

5 years ago today, my time in the military ended. It was a chapter of my life closed by a fibromyalgia diagnosis. But it wasn't really a tough goodbye... it was one that my heart and body needed. (Content warning: Sexual Assault) - - Reflecting on my time in the Army, it's like flipping through a book of vivid contrasts. There were moments of pride – leading a team of 35 amazing soldiers, shaping the training for over 130 personnel, and the joy of mentoring. But, there's a darker side to my story. From early on, I faced sexual assault, a trauma that loomed over every single one of my days. This wasn't just a personal battle; it was a window into the deeper, systemic issues within the Military – issues often shrouded in silence. Thankfully, times are changing. Today, I hear more voices – brave veterans and active-duty members – breaking the silence around MST (Military Sexual Trauma). When I first joined, this conversation was almost non-existent. No one spoke about the risks, the realities, or offered support. I felt alone. Sharing this isn't easy, and it's not for sympathy. My hope is to shed light, to bring awareness. As we recently commemorated Veteran's Day, let's remember: MST is a harsh reality for many, and it's a topic that deserves our attention, our understanding, and our action. New York is taking a significant step forward in mental health care with a proposed bill to establish a psilocybin therapy pilot program. ✨The Program’s Objectives: 🔹Focusing on Western New York, the pilot program aims to offer therapeutic treatment opportunities for various conditions, including cluster headaches 🔹The program aims to assist 10,000 military Veterans, first responders, and their families. Through a science-first approach, the program will not only expand access to psilocybin therapy but also seek to advance our scientific understanding of its therapeutic potential. 🔍 We applaud this initiative for moving us closer to a future where advanced mental health care is accessible to all. 👏 #newyorklegislation #psychedelicmedicine #veteranmentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #firstrespondersmentalhealth
