Administrative Professionals Day had me ruminating on a few pain points last week. Not that I don't appreciate the flowers, lunches or other gifts that show up once a year I mean, who doesn't enjoy a gift, after all? But wouldn't a better gift be to offer a clear career trajectory starting at entry level and going up to the COS level and beyond, with transparent metrics so AP's know what they're working towards, can accurately measure their capabilities and goals, and choose their career path accordingly? Learning and development opportunities, leadership development opportunities, training and mentorship programs, are all on the wish list. In short, all of the tools that are important in every other career are equally important to Administrative Professionals and should be made available. AP's are not an outlier group. For the most part this is a cohort of highly skilled, highly trained and highly educated professionals who should be treated and compensated as such.

Today's the third day of this LinkedIn challenge, and the first thing on my mind to write is: My name is Funmilola Bayode, and I work in customer service. If you've been following my posts from days 1 and 2, this might not come as a surprise. However, it's the first time I'm introducing myself in this light. Twice this month, when asked the classic "What do you do?" question, my response has been, "I do a lot." Now, that raises the question: How do I maximize skills that aren't necessarily related? Figuring out how to combine my skills to find the perfect career path has felt even more challenging than the years spent pursuing my degree. While my official title is "Customer Experience Officer," I have the opportunity to utilize a range of other skills, including writing, editing, project/program management, acting, storytelling, event hosting, content writing/creation, medical writing, public speaking and teaching. Someone once described me as a multidisciplinary person, but that doesn't exactly chart a clear career path. Being a jack of many trades is tough. If I were to draw a Venn diagram of all my skills, I wonder what would be in the middle. #7dayslinkedinchallenge #multidisciplinaryperson #customerexperience #diverseskills #customerrelations #careerjourney PS: This video was made at the NYSC permanent orientation camp Mangu LGA, Plateau state. I had been selected to give a thank-you speech to the state’s commissioner of police who came to visit us in camp.

YOUR Fractional Field Marketing Solution | Organic All-Natural Channel | YES, we do Costco Side-by-Side Demos
A recent key learning re: Trusted Herd that could benefit hiring managers/field managers as it relates to field marketing. Previously, I had been accepting email applications for those that wanted to bypass the TH platform and its process. However, in making an exception for that, I was negating the ability to see reviews of the applicants. I recently had an applicant email me about an opening and her application note and resume were awesome. So I invited her to schedule an interview. In doing some due-diligence, I looked up her profile on TH and saw that she was only rated three stars out of five. MASSIVE red flag. The interview has already been scheduled and I am not going to cancel on her. But I have no choice now but to introduce the uncomfortable question of "Sooooo... why are you only rated three stars on TH?" My advice to field managers: if there is a rating system attached to a recruiting resource, NEVER allow a candidate to bypass it. My advice to BAs: your TH rating is powerful and reviews are powerful. If you burn a brand/agency and they kill your rating, your ability to earn a living in this industry will be severly impacted. So straighten up and fly right. And if you've got stuff going on in your life that's going to impact your performance, you are better off taking some time away and coming back to Brand Ambassadorship when your mind is right.

Points to be noted.
Learning Facilitator || Personal Branding Evangelist || Interview Coach || Learning & Organisational Development Partner || Talent Management
Apply for roles that scare you. Take the interview to the job that you're “underqualified” for. Say yes to opportunities that put you out of your comfort zone. You won’t succeed in everything you do but you’ll learn something new every time. The best teacher after all is experience!!
