Yesterday, we had our annual Home Run Derby! Team members had three tries to hit a ball off a tee for a chance to win Cardinals tickets and a summer fun cooler. Thanks to everyone who came out and made it a real home run! ⚾️

In my opinion, this falls in line with buy low, sell high. I see far too many people buy high thinking it's going to continue. This is a bigger issue for the people thinking short term. #financialliteracy #longterm #planning #diversification #retirement #markets
Will this year’s Kentucky Derby winner achieve the prestigious Triple Crown? It’s unlikely. Since 1875, just 13 Kentucky Derby champs have won all three races.

Scottie Sheffler became the first professional golfer in 50 years to defend his title at the Fifth Major (that’s right!), THE PLAYERS Championship, here in Ponte Vedra Beach. He was battling serious neck pain the entire week, but still managed to recover from as many as nine strokes off the lead. His score of 64 on Sunday tied for the best final-round effort in Players’ history. One of the announcers made a comment comparing Clark's #success as a golfer against Sheffler's. Now, I am fiercely competitive, so I understand measuring yourself against the best in the world. It makes sense, doesn’t it? Of course, to become the best you have to beat the best, right? Allow me to offer another perspective on your path to becoming the best: 1. To be the best – surround yourself with the best. 2. To be the best – commit to putting in the work when no one is watching. 3. To be the best – understand challenges will come, and your response will separate you from the average. 4. To be the best – measure your success first and foremost against yourself, yesterday. Learn more about these four powerful tactics and the three ways to avoid the pitfalls of comparison in our latest blog: https://bit.ly/3x8L2RF https://lnkd.in/eXcd4KmG

Playoff races are in full swing!! One single at-bat can loom large and make a huge difference in a team's push for that coveted division or wild card spot! Let's dive into a stat we can use to measure just how impactful a player has been on their team from one at bat to the next! Win Probability Added, or WPA, measures the impact one at-bat has on the Win Expectancy of a team. Before every plate appearance, the team has a numerical Win Expectancy, and we can therefore calculate how the result of that at-bat affected that percentage chance of winning. We can also look at a player's WPA over the course of the whole season! Let's take a look at this year's top and bottom 5 players in WPA! Top 5: - Mookie Betts - Freddie Freeman - Kyle Tucker - Ronald Acuna Jr. - Shohei Ohtani Bottom 5: - Myles Straw - Tim Anderson - Jeremy Pena - Daulton Varsho - Carlos Correa Do any of these names stand out or surprise you? What can we learn from stats like WPA?

A Friday thought......'How impactful are rules alone, on changing a cultural problem' This week, I took some extra time out of the normal work week to pen a column on the challenges faced by the GAA, and its newly appointed Gaelic Football review committee on improving the enjoyment levels of 'Gaelic Football' In many people's eyes, rule changes alone can solve the unfolding problem we have. I am not so sure however. The more I think of it, I believe we have an underlying cultural issue concerning Gaelic Games, that does not exist in the majority of team, field and skill-based sports. In particular, I am talking about how current GAA goers and pundits must start to accept that to have an exciting, skill-centric, risk-taking game, we must similarly accept and applaud (crazy as that might sound now) the side products of this i.e, wides, turnovers, 50/50 contests. You simply can't have one without the other... When Lionel Messi goes on a mazy run through the defence and then skims the post with a blazing shot, what is the reaction in the stands and at home watching on the TV? Compare that to how we react when a Gaelic Footballer does something similar? 'FFS, why didn't he lay it off' ... sound familiar? We can tweak away with all the rules to try and fix the symptoms we currently decry, until such a point that the game becomes unrecognisable. A game that when played in the right spirit and instruction, shows us time and again that the rules are not the root cause of the problem. Similar to your own organisations. You can have all the rules you want around areas like H&S, Quality control etc. but it is your behaviours and leadership that ultimately dictate the prevailing culture. Anyway, I look forward to seeing some progressive ideas from this new Committee in the months ahead. Enjoy the games this weekend, and safe travelling to those of you attending. Have a great weekend. Brokerage is often compared to athletics. I watched the worlds best Pickleball players today. Here are my takeaways that can be easily applied to our business. 1. Keep it simple, back to the basics. 1. Keep your eye on the ball. 1.No need for emotion. (Good or bad). 1. Stay in the zone and block out the chatter. 1. You will not win every point. Move quickly to advance to the next deal/point. 1. It’s important to know when to slow it down versus speeding up the process. What do you think?
