How does The LSM Club approach diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace? In light of Diversity Month, being in April, we consider ourselves a very inclusive community of gals. Our workplace is subject to creativity, not who we are ethnically. We welcome our staff from whatever background and for who they are on the inside, not on the outside. 🙌 On the events side of things, we ensure that our events are inclusive of every individual's preferences in what they like to do and if there are any discrepancies, there is always an opportunity to voice out our concerns and have those concerns dealt with promptly. However, the workplace at The LSM Club is generally a fair and inclusive community, which is always a good sign! ☺️ We are also inclusive in having a fair share of hosting opportunities for each event host who gets to experience hosting different events and for appropriate scheduling. 😅 #TheLSMClub #diversitymonth2024 #awareness #eventsindustry #eventlife #eventplanning #londonevents #london

#ElevatingEachOther Today, I spent the day with our Amey Affinity Group Chairs, listening and working with Business in the Community, a network of responsible businesses that aims to create a fairer society and a more sustainable future. We discussed the ingredients required to make a successful network and how to put our best foot forward. The key points of the session included: 👍 Understanding what is best practice to ensure effectiveness and clarity for the business and the affinity groups. For example, we learned how to align our vision and purpose with the business strategy and values. ✨ How our groups are best placed to work with the business to ensure we achieve our objectives. For instance, we explored how to collaborate with other affinity groups and stakeholders to create a more inclusive and supportive workplace culture. ↗ How moving forward we can measure the impact our work has on the inclusion space of the business. For example, we discussed how to use data and feedback to evaluate our progress and outcomes. Thank you Emily Davies, Emma Charlton and Louise W. for organising! Our next in-person event - Tuesday 17 October from 17:00 at the DoubleTree in Swindon: Building Bridges - Embracing Diversity in the Workplace – Presented by Rachel Weaven and Louise Hunt Skelley PLY Event details: Any company or person in a role who cares about their workforce and wants to make sure they are getting the best out of them should sign up for this workshop. Similarly, anyone who wants to make their environment more inclusive but isn’t sure how to do that would also benefit from coming along. This workshop on embracing diversity will to be interactive with case studies and real-life stories to help bring the topic to life as well as some activities to experience some conditions. We want to create a safe space where people can say what they feel and think and there be no judgement as a lot of our beliefs aren’t always our own. Both Louise and Rachel feel that many employers are hesitant to employ people with protected characteristics or disabilities. That reluctance comes from concerns around their ability to support them. This one could have gone on and on. There's so much to say about events and making them both accessible and inclusive (these are not the same thing - read the guide to learn why) that this latest in the series of EDI guides for Chartered Institute of Public Relations could have become a book. Instead, I hope it inspires people to take action on their own events and reflect on all the ways disabled people continue to be excluded. Honestly, this one was hard to write because it reminded me of all the things we can and should be doing but rarely do, and all the things I'd love to see happen. I think most people have experienced a time where they felt excluded, and the effects can have major impacts on people's lives. It's great to see more of a focus on diversity and inclusion in the community and in workplaces. You go to work to do a job, and no one should feel excluded at their workplace. There are so many stories of WA businesses who are making great progress in D&I, like BHP, and I feel so thrilled to help put those stories in the spotlight. Let's celebrate WA businesses who are making strides in D&I and raising the bar of what's expected in the workplace.
