𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝑳𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑬𝒕𝒉𝒚𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒆 𝑮𝒍𝒚𝒄𝒐𝒍 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚. Ethylene Glycol was first formulated by Charles Wurtz in 1856. Nobody knew the great qualities of this chemical until 1917 when it was first used for explosives in world war 1 due to its flammability. It had to wait 60 years to find its first use. 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝟏: 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠. 𝐒𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. Ethylene Glycol first use as explosive was found in World War 1 and second use as antifreeze in automotive coolants was found in World War 2. Yet, Ethylene Glycol, with its unparalleled qualities such as anticorrosion attributes, boiling and freezing point modifications, and remarkable thermal stability, carries a dark side. Its toxicity, coupled with a deceptively sweet taste, posed risks of accidental ingestion by unsuspecting animals and humans. To counter this, additives were introduced to impart a bitter taste, safeguarding lives. 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝟑: 𝐍𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞, 𝐧𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭. 𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐭. VP of Sales & Project Management - Automotive CV & Railway at Leclanché SA (Lithium-ion Batteries for BEV)
Is PFAS going to be what the Hexavalent Chromium was for the Automotive industries in the early 2000s or Asbestos in the 90es? Probably yes ! whilst European Chemicals Agency is considering its ban in the new REACH revision, there are other legislators like the State of Maine who are in the forefront of the protection of Human health and environment with PFAS (permanent chemicals : per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) ban in all products from 2030, we can expect many other legislators will follow, as PFAS harms to human health and environment is a scientific evidence : Is it possible to avoid PFAS in Li-ion batteries production? Yes, it is: 👇 https://lnkd.in/etPkAzuJ https://lnkd.in/eBU_6Fxq.

We are asked a lot about PFAS and how legislation may impact various industries. Linked below is our latest webinar on the PFAS topic.
[PFAS WEBINAR 📢] ESA member company James Walker has released a second webinar on the subject of PFAS. The focus is on the impact that the proposed regulation will have on the sealing industry, what seal users need to be aware of, what action James Walker is taking and how polymer manufacturers, sealing companies and end-users can all help each other find the optimal solutions to this challenge. A blanket ban on Fluoropolymers is a bad idea. Fluoropolymers are a class of synthetic polymers with multiple strong carbon-fluorine bonds. They are known for their exceptional resistance to chemicals, heat, and electrical conductivity, which makes them highly valuable in various industrial applications. Here are some key points about fluoropolymers: 🔹Chemical Structure and Properties: Carbon-fluorine bonds give stability and resistance to chemicals, UV, with low friction. 🔹Types: Key types include PTFE (Teflon), PVDF, FEP, PFA. 🔹Uses and Applications: Used in cookware, aerospace, automotive, medical, and electronics for unique properties. 🔹Environmental and Health Concerns: Concerns over PFOA and PFOS impact, leading to regulation and health debates. 🔹Research and Alternatives: Development of eco-friendlier alternatives due to these concerns. Our white paper argues against a blanket ban on fluoropolymers, focusing on why these compounds are deemed more of a necessity than hazardous, as well as the regulatory state of play and current bottlenecks.
