Music industry entrepreneur running a venture studio || Podcast Host || Startup Consultant || Have fun with AI tools
Music Startups, Are You Speaking to the Right Investors? For any startup, the guidance typically echoes: Find investors who understand your industry. It’s about securing ‘smart money’—investment that comes with insights and connections. But when the music industry seems to lack a robust culture of investment, where does that leave music startups? Recently, Capella Entertainment celebrated securing our 16th investor. Interestingly, just one comes from the music sector, despite our strong ties with major players. It raises a question worth pondering: Are efforts to attract music-specific investors the best use of your time? This trend may be a complex tune to unravel, but it suggests a shift in strategy could be beneficial. Perhaps it’s more effective to refine your pitch for investors outside the music industry. By translating music’s value into a language that resonates across various industries, you might just hit the right note and open up new avenues of support and understanding. How have your pitches with “music-investors” been received?

We're thrilled to announce LOI Venture has placed an investment in Holdr founded by Aneesh Varshney and Buk Nkosi 🎶👏 What’s Holdr? As cofounder Aneesh Varshney puts it: “Holdr is the ultimate modernized fan club, where artists fuel their careers and fans get front-row seats to their favourite artists.” More technically speaking, it's solving a high demand problem in the world of music through simple software tools. Holdr empowers artists to unlock the full potential of their fanbases, offering a sustainable revenue stream that allows artist’s to partner with their top fans, all without sacrificing any ownership of their music and future. Holdr then tackles the challenge of fragmented fan engagement by providing a central platform for artists to aggregate their careers and connect with their communities. Aneesh and Buk are building a platform that champions inclusivity in the music industry, ensuring every artist can access resources and opportunities, leveling the playing field regardless of one’s background. Our team at LOI Venture couldn’t be more proud to be part of backing their journey. 🚀 #startups #technology #entrepreneurship #music

#StartupFoundations - How a rich experience in the family and legacy of generations contributes to building an #Ethical #MusicAI business. The story of Mansoor Rahimat Khan ! Interesting Observations and Insights as well in the article: 🤔 > Inexperienced VCs, where is the value creation of intellectual capital which comes through the founders network & DNA? > Why are the international major labels on the back foot whenever there is a pivot with innovations and their first line of defence is always reactive, reflective of being insecure? Needless to say, in majority - one is generally driven by self gains in money multiplier, the others in majority by control. While the founders in order to achieve their aspirations & dreams keep pushing the hairline back ! Fascinating world of cool startups !!! Suno raised $125M and it appears they've also raised 125 million eyebrows. It's been interesting reading various takes on the raise, on the service, and the notion of possibly building a business on the back of copyright infringement, but we've all seen this before. 10 years ago, I wrote a piece for Hypebot after meeting several budding music tech startup founders at SF MusicTech Summit who clearly had not factored in music licensing into their music/digital media tech startup (some had raised money) and every word rings true today: "Putting lawsuits aside, it is important to understand the IP implications early on as it does affect your bottom line. Not taking into account the royalty payout requirements for the various licenses you’d need means your profit projections will be dramatically skewed (which doesn’t make for happy investors). I strongly recommend that anyone considering launching a music tech startup (or a startup that incidentally uses music, such as any video platform that allows UGC or a website with music as a complement to the core product offering) consult an IP attorney or at least a music business consultant who understands IP as it relates to new and emerging business models, like the author. Lastly, founders should consider the fact that the music tech companies who many aim to imitate have been beat into submission, sued into extinction, or raped of equity over the years. Napster, Youtube, Grooveshark, Myspace, Limewire, ReDigi, Veoh, iMeem, Vevo, Spotify, Thumbplay, Songbird, and many lost souls who’ve you’ve never heard about have all faced the big music machine. For those big enough to kick and fight, they may prolong the inevitable, all while not turning a profit—Pandora." Initial knee-jerk reactions upon hearing how Suno raised $125 million weren't necessarily positive (including mine). However, the radically optimistic take is that there is a strong growth market for music technology companies innovating music. Music is a fundamental of life, and therefore has profound intrinsic value. Music and technology will continue to shine new paths for humans to interact with sound. 2.5 years since I started Soundromeda, I've encountered three types of people: those who see the big vision I'm after and believe I can execute it, those that are too mystified by our innovation they need to see how others react to it first, and those that are so high-nosed in their gated circles they won't even give us a chance (lol at the last group). As a bootstrapped founder, the road is arduous and lonely, but we've built a great team along the way along with dozens of industry partners to persevere through the noise. Eventually, Soundromeda will have our day in the sun, and most of you will be blown away at how spot-on we are with our gameplay experiences, product design and strategy around the wild nature of music and IP while integrating the best of Web3 and our own AI. This is a true culmination of my life's path, and I wouldn't have it any other way. All will be revealed soon enough ;-) #music #gaming #web3 #ai
