Jeff Werber, DVM, an award-winning veterinary journalist and co-creator and chief veterinary officer of Airvet, gives perspective on his communications with anti-vaxxer pet parents. As a veterinarian, these encounters are unavoidable and (occassionally) uncomfortable. Werber advocates for education and open communication, stating "Simply put, I can't force them. But I at least want it to be at their risk, not mine." Canine Parvo disease prevention is essential for maintaining dogs' health and wellbeing. The most successful approach is vaccination. A full series of vaccinations should be given to your puppy beginning at 6 to 8 weeks of age, with boosters given every 3 to 4 weeks until the puppy is 16 weeks old. Until they receive their full vaccination, keep them away from places like parks or shelters where contaminated dogs may have resided. Maintain proper hygiene by cleaning and disinfecting their home on a regular basis, especially any areas that could be contaminated. Keep your distance from unfamiliar dogs and their excrement because the virus can linger in the air for several months. Lastly, monitor your dog for symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and loss of appetite, and seek immediate veterinary care if you suspect Parvo. #DogHealth #PetCare #ParvoPrevention #Vaccination #DogSafety #PuppyHealth #PreventParvo #DogOwners #HealthyPets #PetWellness #VetAdvice #DogLovers #CanineHealth #PetTips #vervetico

Nearly 50% of Dog Parents are Hesitant to Vaccinate their Dogs. Research from Boston University School of Public Health, published in August of this year, reveals a growing concern in the realm of pet health: Canine Vaccine Hesitancy (CVH). The study found that over half of dog parents in the US display some level of skepticism towards vaccinating their pets against diseases such as rabies. Nearly 40% believe canine vaccines are unsafe, over 20% think they are ineffective, and 30% deem them medically unnecessary: https://lnkd.in/dtheGttw Moreover, about 37% of dog parents believe that vaccinating their pets could result in the animals developing autism, a notion unsupported by scientific evidence. A spillover effect has been identified linking negative attitudes toward human vaccines (especially COVID-19 vaccines) to negative views on pet vaccinations. This hesitancy poses significant risks not just to the animals but to veterinarians and staff, further straining an industry grappling with burnout and job turnover. The study is a call to action for trust restoration in vaccine safety and efficacy, emphasizing the dire consequences of ignoring such hesitations. As vaccine mandates like the MMR in public schools come under scrutiny, this research signals the urgency of addressing and countering vaccine misinformation with solid scientific data. Check out this Science Daily report for a synopsis of the study: https://lnkd.in/eiVEn7jw We’d love to hear your views on canine vaccines! #CanineVaccineHesitancy #PetHealth #PublicHealth #VirginiaDogTrainer #DogTrainer #JoyfulDog #TimetoTrain #FearFreepets #Pets #Animals #Dog #Dogs #PetsofInstagram #PetLovers #PetLover #Pet #LoveYourPet #Family #DogSafety
