This is leadership.

Why do you do the work that you do? Yes, this is one of those moments when you seriously need to do a sincere evaluation of the reasons behind your actions and ambitions. But let's backtrack a little. At the beginning of the month, there was a state wide congress of all the Student and Corpers Christian Fellowship Association of the particular denomination that I belong to. All seventeen chapters in the state were present —under one roof and here's where it gets interesting. During the Award Ceremony on the last day of the Congress, I had the privilege of being awarded not just one award but two! I was the only individual that was given two different awards. I was awarded the best writer and the most sociable all across the seventeen different fellowship chapters in the state. It gets even more interesting. After such a feat, you'd expect that I'd be leaping for joy and my friends certainly did the leaping for me but for one thing, I felt very numb. Yes, so I was recognized for the work that I do and my communication skills but in my head, it felt like, "Thank you, next." I didn't even unearth the lesson that lay in this until much later. I realized that one reason why I was unmoved by this feat is because the reason why I work, grind tirelessly and pursue being a better version of myself is not just for accolades although those are nice. I admit, they're nice. However, I have a more compelling why. I do the things that I do to serve humanity and honour God. Simply put. What this means is that, everyone needs a compelling why that drives the things that they do. They need a potent and super strong reason that would keep them awake and pushing even when the going gets tough. Recognition, awards and accolades are great but when it's all said and done, you'd find that they're not fulfilling. So, if they're the only reason why you do the things that you do then I'm afraid to say that you're in a rat race. Consequently, you need to have a compelling why that goes beyond the ephemeral and surface level. Something of greater and sterner level than just a fancy award plaque. Today, I challenge you to dig deeper into yourself and find your compelling why.
