“We provide a service. It's people that we invest in to go deliver that service.” As CHROs rise to prominence and reinvent themselves, many companies have started thinking about making their HR function more aligned with the company’s business goals. But Airbnb has taken it a step further and tasked the executive leading global business strategy with also overseeing its people function. Early this year, Dave Stephenson ditched his CFO title and became Airbnb’s first chief business officer, while still carrying on with his employee experience role. bit.ly/3RWdLk8

'Welcome to our family!' A Managing Director once said this to me after I joined the company, and although he had the best of intentions when saying it, alarm bells rang for me. I was encouraged to see Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky share his lessons learned on this very subject recently. When it came time to let people go, his idea that colleagues were 'one big, happy family' came up short. I prefer the metaphor of the professional sports team. There is high trust and a strong sense of belonging, but performance is front and centre. How do you feel about the concept of 'work is family'? #employeeengagement #leadership #learninganddevelopment #humanresources #hr #performance

"We don't have a lot of people in business and power that can take creative leaps of imagination and really understand how to design something better" If you watch anything today watch this tiny 2 minute segment of #DOAC featuring AirBnb CEO Brian Chesky - 32:46 - 34:36 (the link starts at 32:46). Could so much of what we're experiencing be down to this? Death of creativity by 1,000 corporate cuts. Now clearly, there are highly creative companies all around us. In fact, it is amazing how much creativity there is in the world in spite of the corporate world doing all they can to squash it. But I am struggling to think of an industry right now that isn't experiencing huge and ongoing problems due to a complete lack of creative, bold, risky and imaginative solutions. Which I would mostly blame on a crisis of leadership. In my mind it isn't even a bold decision, but for starters, we need way more female CEOs both spearheading existing companies and building new ones. Who may not necessarily be the most creative, but are far likelier, i would say, to understand that is must exist within their organisation and go about implementing it. Add into the mix men who are creatively minded with empathy and kindness built into their DNA, and we can start to imagine a much more interesting, vibrant and resourceful working world. There is room for every person and characteristic, but if creativity and humanity isn't at the heart of business, it is nothing. This is what Angell Brothers is striving for. Here's to other creatives feeling empowered to do the same.

CEO @Marte | @Ultranormal | Techstars mentor. Committed to Ethical Leadership, Sustainable Business Strategies and Innovation.
A phenomenal fireside chat between Riccardo Haupt and Airbnb's visionary founder Brian Chesky 🚀 The discussion touched on critical topics like the #FutureOfWork and the ever-relevant issue of #Overtourism, offering valuable insights from multiple perspectives. However, what fascinated me personally were the glimpses into the human side of a founder / CEO's journey - the untold stories behind the scenes. Here are my 3 key takeaways: 1️⃣ Find Your Best Spot: Not every successful CEO is an early riser. Brian is a late riser who doesn't wake up until 9 AM and doesn't engage in morning meetings before 10AM. It's a reminder that success isn't about conforming to a rigid routine but discovering what works best for you. 2️⃣ Embrace Flexibility: Despite his role, Brian prioritizes focus over office presence. He shared that he spends three to four days at the office, but when deep concentration is needed, he prefers the tranquility of his home office. Flexibility and adaptability are essential in today's dynamic work landscape. 3️⃣ Capture Ideas: The art of capturing ideas is a CEO's secret weapon. Brian’s habit of jotting down thousands of lines per week, encompassing thoughts, writings, readings, and connecting the dots, underscores the power of continuous learning and creative thinking. ✅ Do: Seek out people that you admire to work with never settle on the people you work with. ❌ Don't: Do not apologise for who you are or how you want run the company. The final blow? 💥 «Trying to make people happy, I made none happy because everyone was in a compromise position». Kudos to all Will Media team ! _ #Leadership #BusinessInsights #CEOChat #Inspiration

CEO @ The EnM Group | Principal @ Winstone Consulting -- Seamless Construction -- Reliable Guidance - Always Providing The Utmost Value
In times of crisis—when things are not going well. Every minute of every hour, of every day matters. I heard a great interview with Brian Chesky from Airbnb This one line I heard really hit home. Brian learned this concept while going through the COVID-19 crisis at Airbnb. When working through a crisis or challenging period, you need to be mindful of every moment and make sure you are being super effective in moving things forward. It is so incredible to see the results of how this transformed Airbnb for the better. What CEOs do you find insights from?
