Operations Manager at Fire Stoppers with expertise in construction management and business development
Constant training and upskilling is an important part of our ethos here at Firestoppers.
Another member of the team upskilling with an excellent course provided by Irish Steel. The beauty of this course is the 2nd day where they come out to site and see the team in action and make sure proper procedures and documenting are in place to give client peace of mind that projects are being done correctly.

Shout out to Bryan. This is why I do what I do. From workforce development to public policy and back to workforce development. Creating good union construction careers is the goal. constructioncareers #naw2023 #constructioncareers
Bryan Diaz walked into ACE's SECTOR program with doubts, wondering if it was the real deal or just another checkbox to complete probation, but even still, he knew that he had a lot to offer himself, his family, and the community. Up for the challenge, Bryan worked hard to complete the 10-week MC3 program at West Valley Occupational Ctr. Along the way, Bryan attained his OSHA 10 card and CPR/First Aid Certification and had his mind set on becoming an apprentice with the Cement Mason Union. In April, he was accepted into the Cement Masons Local Union 600 and started his union construction career. Bryan is a testament to perseverance and determination, and his success reflects the opportunities with which SECTOR can connect individuals like him. Let's celebrate Bryan's achievement and the partnerships that made it possible! #ACE4CHANGE #LACJCOD #SECTOR #ApprenticeshipReadinessFund #WeAreWVOC #MC3 #NABTU #BuildingFutures ##UNIONSTRONG #CONSTRUCTIONCAREERS #SuccessStory #WorkforceDevelopment

The building industry is a dynamic and fulfilling career path that has shattered the outdated stereotype that it is only suited for those who didn’t excel academically. The building sector is rich with opportunities for intellegent, entrepreneurial minds, eager to work for themselves and lead, innovate and excel. The UK Shipbuilding Skills Taskforce today publishes their report: ‘A Step Change in UK Shipbuilding Skills’ and a toolkit to support shipbuilding employers to leverage the UK skills system. I’ve had the privilege of working with the Taskforce since its launch in July 2022, as they have considered the skills challenges the sector faces, and identified recommendations to address those. Publication of the report isn’t the end of the journey, as the Taskforce will continue until December, engaging industry to support these recommendations and move towards implementation. There are recommendations aimed at industry, at educators, and at government. We will be considering those aimed at government and will publish a response shortly. On starting this project, many colleagues told me ‘this isn’t a sector that enjoys working together’ and that we may face some stormy seas in trying to build consensus. That has not been my experience, and I have been uniformly impressed by the expertise, dedication and passion for the sector that Taskforce members have shown. My personal thanks today go to those Taskforce members, their dynamic Chair Dr Paul Little CBE, colleagues across government who have supported the Taskforce in the development of the report, my brilliant team (Hannah Patterson, Helen Barker, Bryony Danks) and our colleagues and friends in the National Shipbuilding Office (Rue McIlmoyle, Aimee Spriggs) for their impressive work. The report and toolkit are available here: https://lnkd.in/ePMc-iww. As we embark on the new year, our commitment to safety continues, highlighted by the hosting of two impactful Safe Start meetings that prioritize the well-being of our employees. The first session took place on January 3rd at the Pomeroy Conference Centre in Fort St John, BC, establishing a safety focused tone for the year ahead. Subsequently, on January 4th, a second meeting was held in Grande Prairie, AB, specifically tailored for the STRAIT/IDEAL Coating group. This annual Safe Start tradition serves as a pivotal event, delineating and reinforcing our collective dedication to upholding a safe working environment. This year's events proved particularly enriching, featuring distinguished guest speakers who shared invaluable insights. Corey Hirsch discussed the critical topic of mental health with his presentation "The Save of My Life," while Rick Sikora of Crane Masters discussed rigging safety. Additionally, Mohamed Zayani from CWB enlightened attendees on hydrotesting procedures, and George McGhie from Energy Safety Canada offered his perspectives on human and organizational performance. Vance Whitley contributed insights from the apprenticeship trades in Alberta, and Adele Tait from the Government of Alberta OH&S provided crucial information on investigation resolutions. STRAIT/IDEAL Coatings dedication to safety extends beyond mere words, as we embrace a proactive approach to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for all employees. Have a Safe Year ! #IDEALCoatings #Safety #Dedication #Commitment #Quality
