When I joined RASG-PA in 2010, the region was experiencing an average of 6 to 10 fatal accidents a year, that added up to hundreds of fatalities every year. This was already an important reduction from previous decades, and a really high standard compared to other industries, but we knew we could do better, and that it was not enough.
With RASG-PA (States, Airlines, Manufacturers, Professional Organizations, Airports, and partners) we set a clear objective of reducing the risk of a fatality by 50% from 2010 to 2020. To accomplish this we created a clear implementation roadmap to improve our safety data collection (protect our safety information sources, change the safety culture, enable safety data sharing, etc) and to use that information to identify risks, develop safety enhancements and implement and monitor their effectiveness.
This simple but effective plan, where we focused our resources on the top contributors to our accidents, WORKED! by the end of the decade we had actually achieved an 87.5% reduction! way over the 50% we hoped to achieve.
We actually had the first 0 fatalities in the LATAM-CAR region in 2014, and repeated it on 2017 and 2019. And now this became then new standard: 0 fatalities
Congratulations to all the amazing people who work in the aviation industry in the Pan-American region that make this possible. Keep it up, and remember that the risks we identified and worked on will always be there! And they will come back if we forget why those safety improvements where put in place, why we do what we do, the way we do it! All the training, procedures, policies, resources and programs that are there keep us safe, be aware of cost cutting practices and "new ways" of doing things that diminish your safety standards.
In 2023, more than 12,500,000 commercial flights were registered in Pan America, and we did not have any fatalities. Such an important achievement in an industry as complex as aviation does not come by chance, nor is it the result of luck. Rather, it is the product of teamwork, collaboration, data sharing, and informed decision making. At RASG-PA we are proud to dedicate our work to aviation safety, and to bring together key stakeholders to contribute and help improve the safety of the skies in our region and the world.

Or so some people say.
I'm rather tired of such arguments where people compare, contrast, and declare a winner. IMO, one isn't better than the other. They are different and complementary and together can be highly successful in various endeavors. Both are welcome on my team.

💡During the workshop of today at ArcadisDPS Group Global I conducted a simple but powerful exercise during a midday walk the Team members had to share something unknown about themselves, fostering trust and connection.
Try it out! 😉
👀Looking forward to day 2 and more team growth! #TeamCoaching#Youco#Arcadis#TeamBuilding
We are pleased to announce that Sirena Marine has chosen to implement a Hull Vane® on the Sirena 42 to increase comfort, performance and efficiency!
More benefits are less noise on the aft deck, lower stern waves and reduced pitching. The Hull Vane® also increases top speed and extends the range of the yacht, due to the reduction in resistance.
Curious about the benefits for your yacht? Contact our colleague Pieter Duzijn for the possibilities.

Capitalizing on the influx of global pilot advocacy engagement to expose the dangers of reduced-crew operations over the past year, the 2024 International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Association’s (IFALPA) Global Pilots Symposium convened in Mexico City to expand this collaboration and unity.
During a presidential panel discussion, pilot leaders from ALPA, the European Cockpit Association (ECA), and IFALPA discussed the encouraging level of engagement from their member pilots and how to use this momentum as leverage with decision-makers and regulators. Several IFALPA member associations discussed their individual pilot association’s unique efforts to support the “Safety Starts with 2” campaign—activities have included leafleting airports, public and member information webinars, public awareness campaigns, and significant social media engagement, including a ground swell of support for World Pilots’ Day.
The one-day symposium kicked off the 78th IFALPA Conference. On the final day, member associations elected new IFALPA leadership, including the first two women to its Executive Board—Capt. Rola Hoteit (Lebanon), EVP Africa/Middle East; and F/O Stacey Jackson (Canada), EVP Technical & Safety Standards. The following is a full list of ALPA pilots elected to IFALPA leadership positions:
🔹Deputy President, Executive Committee: Capt. Ron Hay, United States
🔹 Executive Vice President, Technical & Safety Standards, Executive Committee: F/O Stacey Jackson, Canada
🔹 Executive Vice President, Caribbean & North America Region: Capt. John Sluys, United States
🔹 Regional Vice President, Asia & Pacific, US/CEP; CAR.NAM, US/CEP Capt. Bill Bartels, United States
🔹 Regional Vice President, Caribbean & North American (CAR/NAM), CAN/Arctic: Capt. Steven Bard, Canada
🔹 Regional Vice President, CAR/NAM, NAT: Capt. Kathi Hurst, United States
🔹 Chair, Aerodrome & Ground Environment Committee: Capt. Jeffrey Sedin, United States
🔹 Chair, Legal Committee: Capt. James Ball, Canada
