While safety factors are always critical when I am developing toys, packaging, housewares and interactive devices, this is the first product that I have designed that is used to SAVE LIVES. "Hubly Surgical, spearheaded by CEO Casey Qadir, came to me (in collaboration with Ontogen Medtech engineering group) with a proof-of-concept for a groundbreaking cranial drill, and a vision to become the standard of care for bedside cranial access and make today's lethal complications a "never event." Before diving into the physical design, based on product and user research, I defined the following Design Criteria and Principles: DESIGN CRITERIA: - One-handed use - Minimize risk, considering hygiene and safety at every user touchpoint - Ergonomic and balanced handling - Steady, stable, and non-slip grip - Direct, intuitive controls and feedback DESIGN PRINCIPLES: 1. Streamlined: Unobtrusive, seamlessly integrated features. No unnecessary steps. 2. Multisensory control: Strong visual and tactile cues. Pronounced interactive features. 3. Scientific Efficacy: Precision performance with dynamic feedback. The landscape of removable prosthodontics is undergoing a significant shift towards digital workflows, according to a recent survey by LMT. The data highlights a dramatic rise in the adoption of digital design and fabrication methods within this field. The percentage of labs offering digitally fabricated complete dentures has nearly doubled, surging from 18% to 34% in just the past four years. The use of digital technology for complete denture caseloads has witnessed a significant jump, with the percentage fabricated digitally increasing from 5% in 2022 to 11% currently. While some users acknowledge the ongoing advancements in the technology, a growing number of labs are enthusiastically embracing the digital revolution. One lab owner echoes this sentiment, stating, "we no longer offer a traditional denture workflow. Our focus is on a digital workflow and we’re growing the denture side of our business exponentially." Red Dot Design Award is one of the most prestigious design competitions in the world. A great achievement for our team! The Pinky pacifier has been specially developed in collaboration with a medical team and helps to improve the baby's natural sucking reflex. Some babies need some extra help during the start-up process because the sucking reflex has not developed well. How it works Parents can place their little finger in the suction part to manipulate and to give it a little extra firmness. This helps the baby initiate the sucking reflex and makes learning to drink from the breast or bottle easier. The Pinky can also be used as a “normal” pacifier by simply not using the little finger.
