An Exploration of Cultural Preservation versus Fashion Innovation and Change: A Case of Safeguarding Ohorokova and Otjikaiva as a Cultural Expression of Ovaherero Women of Namibia," is a scholarly work that delves deeply into the cultural significance, values, and etiquettes intrinsically tied to the traditions surrounding the crafting and donning of the Ohorokova and Otjikaiva. Further, the paper scrutinises the potential origins of these values and characteristics, speculating whether they might have emerged from the traditional attire of the Ovaherero women during the pre-colonial period and how these practices might have been conserved in the post-colonial era. Dear Esteemed Colleagues, This is with reference to the "OIC/SMIIC 9:2019 Halal Tourism Services – General Requirements Training for Women Experts" which is planned within the framework of the new roadmap for the next ten years, “SMIIC Strategic Plan 2021-2030” in which we have tried to address gender issue by setting a specific KPI “increase women participation in standardization activities” in order to ensure gender balance by increasing women representation in technical committees as well as aiming standards to be gender-responsive regardless of the number of women participation. Furthermore, SMIIC has become a signatory of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Declaration on Gender Responsive Standards and General Secretariat prepared a Gender Action Plan (GAP) so that we can properly and systematically focus on this issue and set our targets and follow the process. In this GAP, we have planned various activities which will hopefully pave the way by encouraging our members to assign more women experts in technical committee works and one of them is organizing "trainings specifically tailored for women experts". In this context, as the second series of the planned activities, the General Secretariat will conduct online training for women experts on OIC/SMIIC 9:2019 Halal Tourism Services – General Requirements standard on 13-14 May 2024 and the training will be given by Dr. Mohammed Ali Alshiekh, Expert from General Secretariat which will include a presentation on SMIIC Gender Action Plan by Mrs. Sevde ÖZBEY, Expert from General Secretariat as well as speeches from four experts in the field of halal tourism: Mr. AbdulMaalik Tailor, Dr. Barbara Ruiz-Bejarano, Mr. Irshad A. Cader, and Mrs. Soumaya T. Hamdi. We would like to invite women experts from our members, stakeholders, and private sector to participate in this training and you may register via the following link: https://lnkd.in/dsd9U-ii With warm regards, Mr. Ihsan OVUT SMIIC Secretary General

🎉 Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo! Here's how to celebrate respectfully. 🇲🇽 Let's dive into the rich history behind Cinco de Mayo! This day commemorates the Mexican victory over the French 🇫🇷 at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, a symbol of resilience and unity. Did you know that it's not Mexico's Independence Day❓ That's celebrated on September 16th.💡 However, as we celebrate, it's essential to acknowledge the commercialization of Cinco de Mayo. While it's become synonymous with margaritas 🍹 and parties, let's not forget its significance. This day holds deep cultural and historical importance for Mexicans and Mexican-Americans alike. To honour the spirit of Cinco de Mayo respectfully, let's avoid perpetuating stereotypes. Mexican culture is diverse and vibrant, extending far beyond sombreros and mustaches. Let's appreciate the richness of Mexican heritage without reducing it to caricatures. 🚫 What you shouldn't do: ➡️ Wear stereotypical costumes or props ➡️ Use cultural appropriation for decorations or social media posts ➡️ Assume all Mexicans celebrate Cinco de Mayo in the same way So, as we celebrate, let's raise awareness of the true meaning behind Cinco de Mayo, honour its historical significance, and embrace diversity with respect and understanding. 🎊 [alt description in the comments] #EquityInAction #DiversityMatters #InclusionJourney #DiversityandInclusion #DiverseVoices #EqualityForAll #SocialJustice #Empowerment #RepresentationMatters #InclusiveLeadership #Intersectionality #DiversityInTech #InclusiveCulture #GenderEquality #CulturalDiversity #RacialEquity #InclusionRevolution #ChangeMakers #InclusiveCommunity #gkwcc #greaterkwchamber #cambridge_chamber #edistrategy #canadiansme #smallbussiness #startup #womeninbusiness
